Damn they really baited some of you in the main thread. You all know the pens aren’t really contenders.

It's great to see that level of Pens hate though. It just means they really are worried we are lol

Well let me ask you, aside from the obvious TOP contenders: Florida, Tampa, Carolina and Colorado, who do you think are some of the contenders a level under them?

Nashville, St Louis, and Vegas. Pens and Caps are in the not real contenders but have the pedigree and talent to make things interesting. Toronto, NYR, and Minnesota are the fake contenders.

Vegas is the one to watch. Once healthy with Eichel and Pac they could all of a sudden be the as good as anyone, but these are all question marks and Lehner is having a terrible year, so goaltending could sink them.

I honestly think the Pens, Caps and Bruins are all as capable as NSH and STL.

I put NSH and STL up there because I think the west is much weaker overall.

thats nice and all gunner, but pens need to focus on getting more players worth first rounders. that separates the men from the boys in the division

The west is much weaker. It's easy to call Colorado, but they've been playoff disappointments, so IMO it still remains to be seen if they learn from their failures or not.

On a side note, even though it won't happen, I'm really hoping for a Boston/Toronto first round matchup.

My worry is that the Pens got hot too early and peak before playoffs.

I think February/March is going to tell us if the Pens are "for real" as they play the Leafs, Canes, Rangers, Caps, Panthers, Knights and Preds, as long as the Islanders don't sneak into a wild card spot and beat the Pens in the first round again.

Personally I'm expecting the Pens to cool for a bit soon. It's bound to happen at some point, but I think the re-scheduling is going to trip them up.

In general I think a lot of teams are going to struggle due to the scheduling, but I'd rather see them cool off in February and start to pick things up closer to the playoffs.

Still, my biggest concern is back-up. Jarry is going to crash and burn if they don't address that soon.

Jarry is probably the biggest reason I don’t consider the pens true contenders. If he plays to his potential and they stay relatively healthy they can do it. Gotta stay out of the wild card though. Don’t think anyone is beating Tampa and Florida in back to back rounds.

Yeah, I'm not excited about the idea of finishing fourth, but if WSH doesn't address their goaltending properly I can't see them finishing higher than fourth.

I think Jarry is perfectly capable of delivering what they need to succeed as long as he doesn't get burned out, which they're well on the road to doing. February and March's schedules brutal.

I’m pretty confident we’ll land in the 2nd or 3rd spot and avoid the wild card. We’re kinda closing the gap on Carolina but with their games in hand I’m still taking them to win the division keeping health constant. I don’t want to play this game too much because the “hell yeah we got the poopty New York team!” Thing has bitten us in the ass 4/6 times in the last ten years (almost 5/6 if it weren’t for Vokun), but I think a 2 vs 3 matchup against the Rangers is a really good spot for us that gives us the best chance to make a run).

We need a backup tender though. If we run Jarry into the ground during the stretch, we’re gonna get swept regardless who we play.

EDIT: Straight up I think if we found a way to acquire MAF to be the backup I think it would have an affect on the locker room that could propel us to a team of destiny cup.

Yeah. Jarry had a bad game. If we had gotten Jarry’s average it probably would have been 3-1 in the third.
