Ehlers is a franchise player. Our former coach did not realize the impact that Nik can have on games. I am hoping that new Uncle or Daddy Dave, as I like to call him is able to use him to his full potential!

Yeah Ehlers is awesome, fun to watch and seems like a good kid!

Was looking at the Jets stats and Ehlers has one less point then Dubois but Ehlers has four more even strength points then PLD, it'd be interesting to see a breakdown of empty net points, tried to find a site that had that info but couldn't find one, I'm curious to know who's stats are padded with empty net points.

I know many like to dismiss +/- these days but Connor, Scheifele and Wheeler are all negative players whereas Ehlers, PLD, Copp, Stastny and Svechnikov are all plus players.

Yes hopefully papa Lowry will be able to get the most out of all these guys and will put them in the best positions to flourish individually, was really glad to see Vesalainen given a shot with PLD and KC, thought Vesa looked decent with them too.

Speaking of Papa Lowry, hopefully he maximizes his son’s potential and puts him on the 4th line. I do think that the 3rd line center position is better suited for Copp or Stastny.

Also looks like Wheeler is on LTIR. Time to use that cap space and bring in Phil “The Thrill”. Lines with Kessel if the Jets make the playoffs could look like:

Connor-PLD-Svechnikov
Vesalainen-Scheifele-Ehlers
Kessel-Stastny-Wheeler
Copp-Lowry-Harkins

You can essentially roll those lines evenly and wear down opponents.

Veselainen gets a lot of love on this board but hasn't delivered the goods yet in the NHL. We can gripe about opportuniities that he hasn't received, however, with the opportunities he has recieved there is little to show. I haven't given up on him but lets just 'pump the brakes a little'.

Vesa hardly gets a lot of love, just some acknowledgement that he's playing alright but the points haven't followed unfortunately, so weird how even mentioning that a guy is playing okay is somehow interpreted as "getting a lot of love".
I'm glad he's getting an opportunity beside KC and PLD instead of putting say Copp there yet again, hope Vesa can make the most of it, simple as that.

That sounds like a fair summary.

No interest at all in "donut boy" . He would be a waste of cap space. Much more interest in Gallager out of Montreal to slot into our second line with Dubios and Connor. Habs will be a seller of any UFA's .

Appreciate about 6 of the 8 years of Maurice. Wanted him gone after last season so I'm glad he resigned ( in actuality Chevy pulled the plug) . Didn't expect Lowry as the replacement. He is likely on a test run till the end of the season. So far that Ehlers, Scheif , Statsny line has looked very good. Can't see Maurice ever putting those three together so good on Lowry to try that combo out.

The Jets need to turn it on a bit to finish top 16 in the league as we might be facing another situation where the top half make the playoffs.

I was thinking about Gallager as well. He is tenacious in digging and getting involved.

Who knows what the outcome will be with Papa Lowry however I hear that once certain players come a whinning about ice time, or back checking, I hear Lowry is cut from a similar cloth as the Hunter boys in that, "he doesn't care". He expects this or that.

There will be certain players that will not like him as he is apparently, black and white, and expects this or that and best of all, he apparently doesn't care what you think.

If the Jets are buyers then, yes, Gallagher would be a good addition, but at what cost?

The thing is, unless the Jets turn it around and put in high gear +++, then we will be sellers, not buyers, at the trade deadline. If so, Copp (unless re-signed and I doubt it) and Stastny should bring in some good pieces for next season and beyond.

The bigger question right now is "When will the NHL resume?" I can't see it re-starting for quite some time. Hopefully I'm wrong but this pandemic is not going away any time soon unfortunately.

aquisition of a bigger salaried player depends very much on Wheeler's status. LTIR doesn't mean we can aquire a 7 million dollar player as we need to be under cap when Wheeler returns - unless wheeler is sidelined until the playoffs start.

Dillon and Schmidt could also be bait in a sell situation.

I think the NHL will push through and complete the schedule. There may be no fans in the rinks but reputation and tv contracts would stay intact.

I think there will be fewer game cancellations due to players testing positive because the league is likely to start to differentiate between players who have symptoms and those who are asymptomatic - similar to the NFL. Players are vaccinated, healthy, fit and with first class health care access for early treatment - they are very low risk to the disease. If they are asympomatic there is no need to test them (2 or 3 times weekly?) and therefore fewer positive cases to report. Symptomatic players are tested and isolate if confirmed and the games go on - with or without fans.

Yikes, I just had a look at Capfriendly and Gallagher has 5 more years after this year at 6.5 cap. So, likely put a scratch through that thought. I like Gallagher tho.

The Jets shouldn't make any trades until they give some of their draft and develop kids a chance to show what they can do at the NHL level. Too many players have been forced to play on the Moose due to the previous head coaches refusal to give them a chance while playing older, slower and less talented players who dragged the team down. Unfortunatly I don't see this interim head coach being any different.

So funny - I did the same thing.

Would like Gallagher but checked Cap Friendly - and yikes! Good player, but no Gallagher for me with that contract!

Agreed. I never bothered to check his term. Thought he was a UFA

Happy Holidays to you Grahamzky! Though we disagree at times, I do really value your input for Jets discussions.

Yes, best Holiday wishes to everyone on here. Also best wishes for good health ( although Omnicron is the common cold being marketed as Covid.)

Looking forward to watching the World Juniors over the Holidays. While Shane Wright is a lock at 2022 # 1 pick , I'll be watching Bedard, Michkov, and Dvorsky closely as the potential top three picks in that 2023 draft class looks like one of the best to come around in quite some time.

Any idea of which Jets draftees will be at the World Juniors?

Perfetti, Lucious, Torgersson and Chibrikov are the ones I can think of, Kuzmin too but idk if Belarus qualified for the tournament and honestly other then Perfetti I'm not sure if any of the other guys I listed are even on their respective countries teams.

Random thoughts:
*Perfetti was excellent last night
*heinola on taxi squad- has he played his last game for the moose?
*no nhl at Olympics: is the door open for former Jets such as byfuglien? (Don’t tell rexy: enstrom, postma, dano and pétan?)

No I don't think it means Heinola has played his last game for the Moose and to be honest unless he's actually going to play why call him up at all, just call up Nogier to sit on the taxi squad cause Beaulieu likely gets in the lineup before the taxi squad dman anyway.

Personally I'd really like to see Kovacevic and Samberg get in some games before Heinola, we know what Heinola can do, I really want to see some of these other Jets D prospects in NHL games.
