Ian Cole gets no suspension.

The idea of the outcome determining the punishment is pretty silly IMO, if you want to get this garbage out of the game. Players are gonna continue to roll the dice with dangerous plays.

It's honestly pretty dumb that Pionk got 2 and Cole got 0.

I mean there is an obvious difference when you watch.

Cole's shoulder is leading the hit(same or further than his knee)

Pionk totally leading with his knee.

But you still aren't wrong. Pionk should have gotten 3-5 and Cole 1-2.

His knee and his shoulder. Watch in slow motion...Cole is extending his shoulder to go for shoulder on shoulder contact. That did not happen whatsoever for Pionk.

They screwed themselves with the Pionk knee on knee. They set a pretty horrible standard.

Cole's is much more obvious that it could have been unintentional due to him making more of an effort to make some shoulder contact.

It is still a suspendible play but Cole has a strong case that its just simply not as bad as the Pionk knee.

Plus lost in it all is he received a 5 min major...at least the refs did their job that game.

Regardless I am happy the NHL is getting exposed lately.

what I learned from the short video clip is that there is a referee somewhere in the NHL who judged that kneeing was worthy of a 5 minute penalty.... and it would seem that if you call the penalty it avoids melee's from happening afterward.

guess its just a coincidence.
