So a bilingual front man for Gorton with no NHL front office experience but lots of charm? Works.

*Edit: executive experience. I see he was with the Flyers for a bit.

Gorton's puppet? I guess it would be nicer to say Gorton will give Briere "on the job training".

I sure hope so. Another stupid decision in a long line of stupid decisions.
Seems nhl teams never learn. Bringing up a bunch of former players trained by the old school morons that have failed for years just means many more years of the same poop.

EK believes his love for the sweater constitutes a material factor that makes him a candidate for the job. I'd rather have a cold, calculating, detached executive who can (1) assemble a great player development staff, and (2) uncover cheap veterans who outplay their market value. But I guess being a fan is important, too.

Danny B loved Montreal so much that he signed with Philly back when we gave him almost as good of an offer. I also like the “GM in Maine” phrasing that conveniently neglected to mention ECHL.

And, who is Scott Gorton?

So I read the “blog”.

Don;t you think if you are a reporter as you say you are that you should proof read your work and at very least use an auto correct?
I don’t know how you continue to say you know these guys then get their names incorrect. Jeff Gorton was hired by Montreal not Scott.

The entire article was a complete laugher.

If they’re the class of the league why did they just draft Logan Mailloux?

If they’re the class of the league why have they drafted so poorly the past 30 years? In the last 30 years they drafted 2 star players. Koivu and Price. A handful of very good players like McDonagh, Patches, Markov, Gallagher. Caufield still to be determined. But other than that they drafted steaming piles of crap.

If Gorton doesn't know what Briere is saying to the local press, who's the puppet now?

Briere was washed up when he joined the Habs. If he truly loved the team, as is suggested here, he would have signed with them when they courted him in 2007.

I suggested that on the Habs thread. Hire a French female player. Oulette, Rheaume or someone like that as a PR person to handle all press and learn the ropes.

Jeff Groton tore the Rangers down and tanked. Drafted Kakko 2nd overall and Lafreniere 1st overall, not to mention a slew of other top 10 picks. How is he proven that he can do it with tanking?

Better yet how has ANY team ever proven that? Other than random (lucky) flashes in the pan, any recent sustained success was built through high draft picks.

Edit: Quoting isn’t working. I’m responding to TurdFerguson’s point about Montreal’s poor drafting over 30 years.

While your overall point is valid, it seems shortsighted to keep Pacioretty and Subban off this list.

Let’s also not forget who drafted Sergachev, who is likely on the cusp of “star” status.

I listed Patches. Subban had one great year that’s it. And Sergachev is good but will never be a star.
