Sorry for the dumb question. So is Comcast CSN Chicago not showing Hawk's game now?.
I couldn't find the last couple of games on TV to watch

Yeah, kind of tough to find the games this year. Last night was TNT. You have to check the TV schedule, but they have games on ESPN, ESPN+, Hulu, TNT, ABC, and NBCSP Chicago.

When Hagel and Tyler Johnson return the Hawks are getting close to what we expected in the off-season.
- pretty good goaltending
- below average team defense
- 3 dmen that have trouble skating the puck out or making the first pass.
- competitive some nights but not good most nights

I'll take the win, but they have to be better in their own zone. There was a sequence in the second where Seattle had the puck in the Hawks zone for a while. Khaira got the puck on the boards about 3 feet from the blue line and screwed around with it. Seattle got the puck and kept it in the zone for another 30 seconds. Just dump it to center. Make them reset. Gotta get JC's system out of their heads. You don't always have to start the offense from your own zone. Sometimes you can just dump it to center. Nothing frustrates an offense more than a defense that is content to just get it back to center and make the offense reset.

Theo. You hit the nail on the head. Caleb in the lineup and Gus in the press box.

Been swamped with work, i couldn't even stay up long enough to see t he opening face off.

Looking at the minutes I'm kind of worried Stillman might be the odd man out, i really really really hope that's not the case.

What's that top line with Dach centering it? Plus 5 or 6 now

My mistake Stillman had more minutes than Gus last night. That's a good sign

I think the 2nd and 3rd D pairings eventually will get pretty even 5v5 minutes. I think McCabe will begin to play better. Like you, I like Stillman a lot. He is somewhat better with the puck than deHaan and McCabe and decent defensively.

Kane is Kane so he will convert chances like this but Philipp Kurashev has underrated offensive skill including a wicked shot.

I agree Theo, that’s why I’d rather see him on Toews line than Khaira, and when Hagel gets back, one of them moves to the third line. While the team still has some defensive deficiencies, they’ve only allowed 6 goals in the last 4 games, hence the winning streak. They have to figure out how to create more offense without risking defense. Actually, if they create more offense and spend more time in the offensive zone, that also should improve their defense, as they reduce the other teams attempted shots on goal.

I’d rather see Entwistle than the other guys on the fourth line.

I think we need to talk to some Oiler fans before we hail Caleb Jones as a saviour on our defence core. But we will probably find out for ourselves soon enough.

Putting Caleb in the 3rd pairing is not exactly making him our savior. Just saying he is better than Gus.

If the opponent puts pressure on this team, the Hawks forget how to play hockey, and rely on the goalie to keep small leads.

Pittsburgh, Arizona, Seattle - each game the same - the Hawks can’t figure out how to relieve the pressure, how to turn the ice, where to be on the ice to protect Fleury AND move the puck out and control it.

They are a split second too slow to react to the play, and not quick enough to get to the puck. Opponents pressuring in the Hawks’ zone are quicker to the play. Even when the Hawks get the puck, they don’t make a good play with it, don’t make decisions fast enough, afraid to make a play.

Is it still the system? They still look like they have no idea where to be.

And it’s for minutes and whole periods, not just a shift or two. Put pressure on them and they fall apart.

I hope Cookson had some ideas….

On the other hand, they aren’t leaving the slot and the goalie unprotected as much as they were.

I agree. They act like the puck is a hand grenade or hot potato. If they take an extra secon and skate to open space they will see what their options are instead they just whack it towards the blue line.

Hawks have 5 wins. Three of the wins are against teams with the 3 worst records in the NHL. So…. There is that. Edmonton on Saturday. It could be ugly.

The majority of the games will be on NBCSN (old Comcast CSN). Here's the broadcast schedule for the season.

Edit - Last 3 games of the road trip will be on NBCSN. Stephen Nelson (whoever he is) and Colby Cohen will be in the booth.

Someone here mentioned yesterday that according to capfriendly Tyler Johnson was placed on LTIR. Sure enough. I think the minimum LTIR stay is something like 10 games or 25 days so he'll be out of the lineup for a while.

That 4th line is abominable. There might be room for one of those guys, as 13th Forward, on a quality NHL roster, but all 3 is pathetic.
