Carol Schram: New-look Canucks show promise as they push the Oilers to a shootout The Vancouver Canucks showed some good determination as they erased a 2-0 deficit but settled for a shootout loss in their 2021-22 season opener against the Edmonton Oilers.

Great work recapping the game Carol.

Season is long, just one game. Let's hope it gets better as the season goes.

Listening to the post game show last night and how they have stats available during the game that we don't. Petey had the puck on his stick more than any forward in the game,,, even McTears. Hughes had it on his stick the most.

The keep away strategy against McDrai at 5v5 was pretty effective. Good call by Green and good on the players for executing.

not really sure thats a Green strategy as much as it is a league wide non-discussed strategy against McDavid.

Some teams just use checking lines against them and approach it like a 5v5 pk

But it seems like most of the better teams aren’t afraid of going toe to toe

even the good teams need to do it. It sucks to say, but McDavid is that good.

PS - when is your pool roster supposed to show up

Some good things to be sure...but holding McD and Drai to nothing 5/5 was a good thing to see.

Team played decent. Thought Bo and Pearson had strong games, as did Hoglander.
Dickinson is a nice addition, with a solid defensive game.

Competing admirably against the Oilers Is hardly a measuring stick for success, The Oilers are a very average team Inspite of the fact that they have the two best players In the universe, We may find out by seasons end that Vancouver Is a better team the Edmonton. Just thought the headline was rather misleading.

Brock would have buried at least one of Chiasson's 3 glorious chances.

OEL looked relaxed and calm made some smart passes, Hoglander was very good feet moving all game, Bo seemed slow and as a team the result is good considering the performance on the dot. I liked D!ckinson, and even Dowling, Pods seemed a bit overwhelmed and the Burroughs/Rathbone pairing played well. That Myers hit was nice to watch especially after someone on twitter posted the Keith elbow to Danny's head, that was a brutal elbow. Demko looked solid and confident, I am still feeling optimistic about a roadtrip over .500. EP40 looked good with the puck and the finish will come, PP1 needs more movement still and Chiasson was gifted too many chances to not convert, I hope Boeser is back soon!
