I'm hoping that between Vlasic, Crevier and now Allan, that one will develop into a top-4 stay at home defenseman. What's the word on Vlasic, seems like there was some buzz on him when he was drafted, but I haven't watched any BU games.

No need to rush Reichel.. another year, 10lbs and strong performance against non-NHL talent will do him well.

What caused the sudden decline for Connolly? Are there injuries/concussions that we don't know about?

I bet that Kaiser is going to be a good one, too. Top four. He needs to get stronger and more experience. In two years he may be ready or very close.

Meanwhile, Galvas may show very well. But I wonder if he will avoid injury as he certainly will get run

I think he was kind of like a less good Troy Brouwer, big body, outstanding shot but not mobile and players like that tend to lose value if they aren't banging in 20 goals per. What he did with 12 minutes of ice time is pretty solid but if that bell isn't ringing there are probably better options.

Connolly's best years were with Washington, that plays more of a straight ahead heavy style which more suits his game.

If all that's holding him back is a system, seems like they could move him to a team with the right system and retain half his salary, maybe get 5th round pick out of it.

Considering he was waived and not one team claimed him, probably not, we'd probably have to give up the draft pick

Stan would probably have to retain salary, and he doesn't want to do that.

As it is, a bigger chunk than half is still counting against the cap. Retaining half his salary is a discount compared to keeping him in Rockford.

I really do get the impression he is in that purgatory of too hurt to produce like before, but not hurt enough to be on LTIR. These declines don't happen at age 29 otherwise.

Clubs have a maximum of 3 players they can retain on. Matta is on retainer for this year. I think Stan wants to keep the spaces open if he has to retain on Strome, and for whatever they end up doing at the trade deadline.

You bet, BGK. Training camp updates are quick and simple plus the additional thoughts are whatever is circulating in my head so I just click the proverbial print button to put thoughts onto the screen.

My early projection is Vlasic and Allan may have the goods to play top 4 as defensive defenseman. Between the two, Allan may be the better of the two as far as consistency and impact.

Crevier likely tops out as 3rd pair if he makes it that far. I like his chances to at least earn a shot in the NHL then see if he can run with it.

ETA: Vlasic and Allan are 3 seasons away while Crevier is 3-4. Don't fast track them, please.

But we shall see how things shake out as there may not be spots available when they are ready. There are others to compete with like Kaiser, Phillips, Krys, Regula, etc. Kaiser is the best of that bunch.

I expect at at least 2 of Galvas, Kalynuk, Mitchell, and Beaudin to be on the Hawks blueline still in 3-4 seasons. One of them could be traded to gain new assets.

Countries are starting to name their top 3 players selected for the 2022 Winter Olympics. For Team USA, Patrick Kane and Seth Jones are selected along with Auston Matthews.

Eh, maybe he wasn't ever that good. He put up some decent goal totals for minutes played based on a high shooting percentage and just taking a lot of shots but if he could get up and down the ice or provide additional value he'd be in the line up based on his experience. His TOI numbers would also be higher if there was anything else tangible there.

I find it very intersesting that nylander is not playing and of these games. playing barrett colton and Osipov over him must mean we are dealing him and we dont want him hurt or we are going to try and get him thru waivers. which there is not way he will. he had 10 EV goals in 60 some games at 21-22 years old.

Why would he not go through wavers?

He was relegated to the AHL by the team that drafted him and hasn't shown anything while in Chicago to show that he was above the criticism regarding his work ethic, play away from the puck, play in the defensive zone or play under pressure.

Sure there's some individual skill but not a whole lot to show that is manifesting into anything outside of potential.

Av's lost their back-up goalie last night, maybe they will give a fifth for Delia or Subban.
