Ratcliffe was always gonna be a long term project. Hopefully he'll keep taking steps forward and the Flyers will be rewarded in the end.

Bigger guys always take a little time to grow into their bodies. Hoping he takes some nice steps this year and stays healthy. The phantoms can do some damage. |

Root, lol. Clarke would keep bringing in veteran D for depth and Keenan would refuse to play them. Iron Mike rarely deviated from his 4 man rotation of Howe, McCrimmon, Marsh & Crossman, except for spot shifts here and there. It’s what makes J.J. Daigneault scoring that huge goal in game 6 of the 87 SCF so shocking. |

Broken rib and collapsed lung!!
Surprised he even made it back to play after that.
Breathing is an underestimated skill for hockey players.

Bill,
1) do the Flyers view Ratcliffe as a center or winger? If I remember correctly, for the Storm he played center sometimes but elite prospects has him as a LW. Maybe I’m mixing him up with someone else…
2) What would you say is Ratcliffe’s ceiling at this point? I know it’s tough to tell with his unlucky past season and it was always said he’d be a longer-term project.
Thanks! |

He played wing for the Storm. Suzuki was the center which is the primary reason Ratcliffe scored 65 times. |

You’re right, now I remember. That season was after we drafted him too, right? And I remember why I thought Ratcliffe was a center: Think NHL video games always had him as a center in our system 😂 |

Well, Bill. We all know that according to many of the Flyers Buzzards around here that the Flyers always draft crappy players that turn into busts, no FA wants to come to Philly because it's not a destination city, those FA's that come are overpaid, and now we find out in this blog that they place an overemphasis on a player's needing to breathe to play hockey.

No player in his right mind would turn down that amount of money. But he has put himself in a tough spot for next season if he doesn't earn at least some semblance of that deal. I would have a hard time thinking another team will try to sign him for that cap hit. Carolina will have to qualify him with a 10% raise.
He better hope he has a great year because otherwise he will be taking a big pay cut next season in free agency if Carolina feels he isn't worth over 6 mil a season.

The Q offer for a cap hit that large is 100% not 110%. So no 10% raise.

On the other hand Carolina may be extending him before he ever reaches RFA status next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal is already in place to extend him at a lower AAV than his current contract pays. |

At a certain salary you don’t have to qualify the player with a raise? New to me although we’ve not had too many situations like that. Where’s everyone on here with that move by Carolina. Good or bad? |

Absolutely. It will be interesting how both side approach it. Does KK wait for the Q offer to keep his salary at 6M or will they negotiate a lower cap hit deal. The other option is Carolina walking away.

110% of the base salary if the base salary is less than or equal to $660,000
105% of the base salary if the base salary is greater than $660,000 or less than $1,000,000. However, this qualifying offer cannot exceed $1,000,000.

Flyers have had many situations like that. Most recently with Sanheim. |
