Weiss signing was worse. However this was expected to say the least. Frans never lived up to the expectations of his contract here. One of the many head scratcher contracts Holland gave out. Best of luck to whatever you decide to do Frans...

There will be no debate this year as to whether he wears #51 or #81!

Holland is gonna be able to get the band back together in Edmonton. First Abby wants to make a comeback and now this. Is Dan Cleary still around?

Can't say I'm upset. I'm guessing Stevie gave him the option, probably to see if a contender would pick him up as a depth forward before he retires. Nothing good was coming from him staying here. Great guy, just doesn't fit the mold of where we are going.

I get 100% buying him out, but im not sure I like the timing, I can not imagine they didnt know a long time ago he wouldnt be worth having on the roster this year?

(and not that I think he would be offered anything elsewhere) but if there was any hope of getting another contract out there, wouldnt it have been nice to tell him right away so if there was a hope of playing somewhere else he could have?

Looks like the Yotes will need not only a cash infusion, but a new place to play next year. Glendale is evicting them!

Uwe Krupp was worst than Weiss, Nielsen or Abby. Krupp only played 30 regular season games with the Wings in 2 seasons and 32 games in all including playoffs.

Nothing against Nielsen but he was done in Detroit. It was either buy him out or let be a healthy scratch or play in GR. This does both the Wings and Nielsen a favor and ends the last bad contract Holland left Yzerman...so glad Holland isn't the GM anymore.

I don't know why the NHL just doesn't relocate that team. I wish the NHL would have fought this hard to keep the Nordiques in Quebec. Doesn't seem like they will ever be profitable in Arizona. They would probably do better in Quebec even with a crappy team.

There's no money to sustain a team in Quebec its been tried, if the yotes would ice a decent team they make money but they have been unable to build a team that competes for the playoffs yearly.

Then owners start going the cheap route and fans are not showing up for that shiatshow. Once mathews arrives if there still in arizona the team will be profitable. So 2 years and lookout!!!!! lol

Seems like the team should relocate to Houston or Quebec, according to the article I seen. Tempe is where the Yotes wre trying to go to, but with their defaulting in Glendale, why take a chance on them??? However, Tempe said they would answer their plea around Sept 2. It should be noted that they do not have an areana that is to NHL standards.......

There is money to sustain a team in Quebec. What they didn't have was a new arena big enough and they do have that now (18,259-seat arena). Quebec isn't a huge city but if Winnipeg can afford a team, so could Quebec city. Unlike Arizona, i don't think they would be an economic drag on the NHL. All the fans that live East of Montreal would likely go there to see games (even if they are Habs fans) since it would be closer. They would have an instant rivalry with Montreal.

I would rather see them moved to Quebec city than keep having to be propped up by the NHL because all they do is lose money and nobody cares about the Coyotes at all.

My guess is they were seeing how his recovery was going and if LTIR was a possibility. He was hurt to end the year if you remember. My guess is he is healthy enough to give it a go now.

I forgot that Frans was hurt but no one really cared because no one probably wanted him playing anyways. (Fans or management). The most important part of Frans being bought out is that it opens up a roster spot even if it's a depth roster spot.

The NHL is not doing a taxi squad this coming 2021-2022 season correct?
