Who knows at this point? Still feel like we’re more likely to see a trade for a top 4 LD, seeing there are no more free agent options. There’s no way he gives Aho that spot and rightfully so. Bioduc has never played in an NHL game - so I’m ruling him out too. Only option is a trade. But who goes?

Since the apparent free agency targets have already been signed by other teams. I believe at this point Lou will go into camp with who he has. I think Lou will wait to see what shakes out from other teams and may make a pick up once rosters are set.

As is sits right now, according to Capfriendly there are 7 teams that are over the cap (not including LTIR money). Maybe he's looking into capitalizing on one of those teams. We know 2 things about Lou. He does his business quietly and he's shrewd. Maybe he already has a deal in the works. Maybe he's biding his time and waiting for prices to come done before pulling the trigger. Guess we'll find out when Lou is ready to tell us.

They still have to leave some space for a prospect to try and to come in and impress. Come April they will need young legs if they are ready for another playoff run.

There are no prospects that are coming in and impressing to the point of earning a roster spot.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if they decide to roll Hickey in that spot to start and see how it goes before they go forking over assets in a trade. I don't think that's the most likely scenario, but I don't think it's out of the question either.

Yeah because at this point we don’t know enough about Hickey and have no idea what to expect

Not endorsing the idea, I just think that scenario is infinitely more likely than someone like Salo or Bolduc stepping in to a full-time job on this team

I didn’t think you were endorsing the idea and I agree with the rest of your post. With that said if that’s the plan that’s a big time pants crapping on Lameriello’s part. I don’t think (hope) that’s the case. I’ll continue to believe there’s a bigger plan don’t you dampen my positivity you SOB.

I don't think that's what he's doing either, I'm sure he's got something else in the works and I'm dying to know what it is

I am no fan of Hickey who I think is just too easily overpowered by the bigger forwards around the crease. However, I will say that he pleasantly surprised me when he played a few NHL games last season.

Oh, the danger of low expectations....

He had one good game and reverted to his 8th defenseman form. That’s why he played five games…. Hickey as a 7th defenseman three years ago was fine. Hickey as a defenseman signed to a 2.5 per four year contract is and always was something different

Edit; I will say this he did look really good in that one game

Fair enough. Not among Lou's best signings.

Beat my edit. Can’t all be home runs as far as signings go

In case you hadn’t noticed, that’s pretty much market value right now.

That being said, I doubt his next deal goes much past 7.

That's crazy! I would pay him $5 million this year and maybe a bonus of $1.6 million but that's it.
What are you giving Wahlstrom, 12 million after he wins the league MVP this year?
