Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: JVR, - bmeltzer
Like you said, JVR isn't as one-dimensional as he used to be. With that said, a team that has him in their top-six is probably gonna have a tougher time making the POs. He should ideally be deployed as a PP weapon and see fewer, softer minutes at ES. Whether that happens or not depends on Allison, Lindblom, Frost, etc.

I think they’ll be in the playoff hunt, if not maybe but he has next year remaining. |

I love that Sammy is still around.
Great kid. Could be huge for the Flyers in those "grind 'em out" games.
He brings a menace to the ice.... |

I'd rather hang onto JVR until next summer, the team is basically set unless if some of the kids make a splash in camp.
Allison is a lock, but Frost and Lyzn have to earn there spots.
I would like to see how some of our other prospects look in camp , obrien, forester(sp) and york , zemula. |

I’m all for moving JVR….as long as it leads to a replacement who can replace JVR’s offence which isn’t easy. Is he slightly over paid ? Yup. But if some are advocating moving him they should also give an idea of how they are going to replace his unique skill set.
JVR is a solid individual and a solid teammate and unless there is another shoe to fall who replaces his 25-30 goals ? |

Nah. I’m just not into paying a 3rd line winger 7 mil. He’s a one trick pony. Sure he’s good for 20-25 goals mainly from pp production. But at 7 mil that’s a waste.
I’d rather pay Allison 1 mil and watch his 10-15 goals ( hey hopefully more) on 3rd line.
Sorry bill but at 7 mil you gotta bring more than 20 maybe 30 goals as pp specialist
And let’s be honest trading Jvr in no world ever would mean the team is gearing for lottery pick. We’re not talking mcdavid here. It’s Jvr 🤮 |

Serious question… so if say you plug Allison in Jvr spot and give him same pp time and 3rd line minutes and he gets sat 15 or so goals. What is this huge offense that needs to be replaced? 10 goals? 7 mil vs 1 mil. In salary. Jvr offers absolutely nothing else on ice. Nothing. Average at best defensively. Never physical. Very rarely ever hustle. No emotion. Allison. Just by getting say 15 goals and the energy he brings is worth more on ice than Jvr ever has or ever will. And 6 mil cheaper. |

So eichel I guess has removed all reference to Buffalo and the sabres from all his social media accounts. Could a trade be coming soon? |

It shouldn’t be that hard to find 4 wingers to play ahead of JVR in the lineup.
Giroux
TK
Farabee
Atkinson
and I could easily see a fully healthy Lindblom in the top 6 as well. The cap hit, courtesy of the last GM, is irrelevant. JVR belongs in the bottom 6 at ES except late in games when trailing. |

Don’t disagree that JVR is overpaid, but to say that all he does is score dismisses this year. He actually was much better away from the puck this year and was very physical at times.
Did you not notice that? |

He really adjusted his all around game starting in AV’s first season. But I think he was more physical and aggressive this past season. We saw a pissed off JVR some games, if I recall he even dropped gloves once or twice. He’s not as one dimensional these days IMO. |

For this to happen that means the Flyers would be out of the playoff hunt at that point.
True colors come out.

I submit to you all that Sam Morin's GWG against the Rangers was the highlight of this past season. |

Saying you would rather have an up and coming drafted player on his entry contract over an overpaid (though productive) free agent is not really much of a stretch. Every team would love to only have players on ELCs who are productive but they signed JVR as a FA to fill a roll, Overall he has not been far off of expectations, His commitment last year was great to see, though many knew when Hextall signed that deal it was alot to pay for his services - However thats what free agency is, Outbidding the other teams, We REALLY wanted a scoring L-Winger at the time.

How would everybody feel of they traded JVR for johnny hockey?
I'm sure there may be some other minor pieces involved. What may those other pieces be?
Make an offer
I bet gaudreau would give us a hometown discount as well if my pipe dream ever comes to fruition
Before someone cries about this offer remember... It's august and Its just hockey talk

Did you watch at all last season?! There were games where JVR was our gets player out there on both sides of the puck
But that could also be why we sucked so bad last year....
Honestly I was surprised by JVRs game last year. I think now that he is older he is modifying his game to stay relevant and earn his money
As usual thought we disagree, huh? |

Minor pieces being German Rubstov and Adam Ginning might interest Calgary.

Maybe yes….but at least with JVR there’s a history…you kinda of know what your getting…I really liked Allison’s game last year, but it’s 14 games. As well I don’t see anyone eating JVRs 7 mill salary…so we would be taking something back, that’s just the reality.
Let’s hope Allison can stay healthy and become a big part of this team. We need his size and physicality up front.
