Sometimes, mere cap space can be turned into a Vezina Trophy winning goalie!

In addition to moving some or all of Strome, Connolly, deHaan, Subban and Delia, Stan may need to find a 4th line center that can take faceoffs.

Last year's faceoff leaders on the Hawks (with over 100 faceoffs taken).
Kampf 52.8%
Soderberg 51.5%
Carpenter 48.4%
Strome 47.0%
Suter 42.6%
Kurashev 41.1%
Dach 40.3%

Toews (if healthy) is a career 56% faceoff man. Tyler Johnson is a career 49.5% faceoff man. After that UGH!! Dach is a 37% faceoff man (but should improve). His wrist injury last year could have been a major factor (or not). We are hoping Strome is gone. Khaira took 378 faceoffs last year and won 45.3%.

Soderberg is still unsigned. He might be a nice fit on the 4th line. He played for $1 mil last year. So easy on the cap.

4th line
Soderberg (7G in 45 games 14 minutes TOI, 51.5 FO%)
Khaira (3G in 40 games 12 minutes TOI, 45.3 FO%)
Carpenter (4G in 40 games 13 minutes TOI, 48.4 FO%)
It would be slow as hell but fairly tough to play against, They could all take faceoffs and play on the penalty kill too.

I am numbed as well on most. This hit home due to it being the hawks which I followed for so long win or lose. The names will come out. I for one will not forget.
- TYDALE

A little (lot) premature. So far, all we've heard has been the plaintiff's side. For most involved, they probably thought it was taken care of when Aldridge was fired. Plus, upper management that was reportedly in the room, can easily pin it on McDonough.

I'll wait for the investigation, see what gets released, and see what comes out at the trial(s), if it gets that far, before I truly form an opinion.

At this point, I will be thrilled without the 5 minutes stretches that turn into a shooting gallery against the Hawks.

If not, Fleury might just retire after all.

Connolly is not getting moved now. Maybe next season or if he wants out. You do not trade for a player and flip him 6 months later unless there is a very good reason to do so. Other players won't want to sign here if they see players flipped left and right.

Connolly was dumped by Florida Borgstrom was the target in the trade. Stan ate the Connolly contract to get Borgstrom.

In addition, if Johnson was indeed brought in to play 1RW with Toews and Kubalik, you have Strome/Borgström/Gaudette centering the 3rd line and need someone muscle on that line - that's Conolly.

That's not the point. If you are a player and have several options, you are less likely to sign with a team known to flip players quickly.

Sometimes we forget that players are human beings with families and most do not want to get uprooted.

I think we got Stillman and more importantly, the rights to Borgstrom as sweeteners for taking Connolly and his 3.5 M contract x 3 (at the time) and giving Florida cap room. That said, I think he can be moved.

I think Stan did want Stillman as well which is evidenced by the extension he quickly gave him but he also gave up Carlsson which makes that part of the trade a wash.

Dach won’t get 20 goals, I’d say 10, tops. He’ll likely be injured at some point this season, plus he’s a pass-first centre.

I’m a big fan, I’d like to see him extended sooner rather than later before the price goes up.
- Angotti

I'm also a big fan and should he pot 25-35 goals this year he will be the guy who gets us a 1st round pick + a good prospect cause the Hawks won't be able to afford him.

They already have 10 guys signed for $53m next year and that without Dach/Kubs/Murphy and any goalie signed.

I sure hope not. If the reports are true the hawks should be buried by all.
- TYDALE

Have you seen "report(s)". So far I have only seen unsubstantiated accusations by the attorney. I have not seen or heard any evidence of specifically what went on in Aldrich's apartment, specifically what went on in Hawk management meetings, and what if anything did a letter from the Hawks specifically say about Aldrich after he was dismissed (and whom it was addressed to). Let's tap the brakes until we have the evidence, pro or con.

Hawks are still not a serious contender even after acquiring an aging goalkeeper, The blueline Is still really bad and Fleury will be fighting the puck nightly.

"I'll check back about 2021 to see how the new regime is doing"

So? How we doing? No new regime, management wise, and a lot of sudden scampering around out of no where after the slow, prodding process of finding as many little guys to combine with all the #1 failures you can get your hands on. Very interesting, if not puzzling, sequence over the past few years. When a great announcer used to bark out "A left, and right, and left, and a right" he was describing a fight on the ice, not the direction of the hockey team.

Hagel is 22 and has only played 52 games. He averaged only 14 minutes per game usually on the 3rd or 4th lines with weak line mates. Even so he was nearly 0.5 pts per game. I am not ready to pigeon hole him as a bottom 6 player.

Even strength points per 60 minutes.
DeBrincat 2.621
Kane 2.582
Dach 2.139
Kubalik 1.964
Hagel 1.817
Suter 1.809
Strome 1.205 (Ugh)

By comparison
Couture 1.842
Kadri 1.841
Zajac 1.834
Danault 1.827
Kopitar 1.825
Horvat 1.814
Schwartz 1.809
Parise 1.796
Drouin1.780

- -Doh-

So your saying Stanley should have traded Strome and paid the money saved from Strome to pay Suter?

Another Bowman fail.
