Suter some sort of a-hole or something? Is he open about his political views? Those are great production numbers and underlyings for a rookie...I dont get it.

I would totally take a chance on Kase....sign Suter and Tater too....sign all 3 of them for around 1 mill each haha..call it a day. Forward corps replenished. Done haha.

Really like the idea of Suter. I think Chicago had this Tyler Johnson deal lined up this whole time, so likely why they didn't re-sign him as they already had 4 centers. I imagine Suter will go to wherever he has the best opportunity. Not sure if that will be us but I hope so.

I am very concerned at this point about the way we are just sitting on our hands while missing out on some good opportunities to make a move. Vancouver was able to move Saucy Schmidt and his terrible contract to the Jets and get a 3rd back. Caps got 2 seconds for Dillon. Why haven't we made a move to clear some of the cap space from Pettersson or Matheson?

There are a lot of good players out there in the market that would really help this team but we are not connected to any of them... I am officially getting nervous. As much as JR really poop the bed on some of his most recent trades, I feel like he would do well in this market where some of the terrible GM's like Bowman, Holland, Benning & Waddell are wheeling and dealing.

Going to stay optimistic that there is a plan we will see unfold in the next couple weeks.

I like Kase but I don't think there is any chance we sign him. I don't see Hextall taking any chances with how conservative he has been. They want to get more physical, so picking up a guy who has played less than 20 games combined over the past two years due to concussions doesn't seem likely.

I'd take Kase at less than $1M for one year.

CHI clearly wanted Tyler Johnson over Suter for some reason. Why pay a young promising player when you can pay a sharply declining $5M player? Seems very Chicagoish to me.

Kase and his injury history was born to be a Penguin.

Not sure I'd even waste 1mil on him with our cap situation.

Yeah, but at less than $1M it's no real gamble if the Pens have to put him on LTIR.

Nah because he would have gotten a hard-on for some aging veteran or former no. 1 draft pick and signed a player on the downswing of his career. Woulda blown his load and spent all his cap before the market was even there.

I couldn't agree more. I am also getting nervous that we will be doing nothing this off-season to improve the roster.

For fans who like to see a lot of action JR really scratched that itch often, but man, I've never been happier that he was no longer the Pens' GM. I don't think we can really fathom what kind of shenanigans he would have pulled.

Yeah I'm not so confident JR would masterfully handle these strange expansion draft flat cap times hahaha

FWIW....

Madden said on the radio yesterday, he's hearing the demand for Petts is higher than most people would think.

Can you imagine the carnage that would have taken place if GMJR was still here? Probably would have given Seattle next years first to avoid taking Blueger, probably would have made an overpay to get Fleury back here, and then spent the remaining cap money on Nick Bonino.

Seriously though, this is one of the craziest times in recent memory for player movement and there is a lot of opportunity to make impactful moves. I sure hope Hextall has a master plan and isn't just playing it safe with minimal moves.

I like JR, but I think he would have been a disaster this off season.

One of the weirder parts of the Athletic free agency article was in regards to John Marino's availability. How/why in the world is that a thing?

Yeah, and I suspect the demand will go up once a few names come off the board. I think the biggest hold up has been Hextall is looking more for a hockey trade than a cap dump, so identifying a team that both needs Pettersson and has a player the Pens want probably makes things more difficult.

My prediction...

One splash Saad.

One 1B tender with DeSmith sent out.

One cap clearing move.....Petts.

Hexy gives our youth a chance to fill out the roster.

Really want Ceci back, but don't think there's any chance of that.

I think it's already confirmed Ceci is headed to Edmonton, no?

I read that. Didn't seem like they backed up that claim with any credible information. Would be stupid a move to give up on him so early. He's not what JR proclaimed him to be, but I think he can be a solid 2nd pairing RHD.

Didn't see that, but haven't followed much the last couple days. Pretty much knew we couldn't pay him.

Out of curiosity, what on Hextalls resume highlights his effectiveness as a GM? I really dont know his past. I think he was part of the Kings success? But the Flyers suck.

I have no clue who most of these players are outside the big names outside the Pens.

Hopefully they put together a solid team. I dont watch as much hockey as i use to and the last few years Ive really checked out.
