Thanks John
At first I didn't like this move what so ever because he's taking a spot away from a prospect. But now that I've read a bit more about Pitlick, I like the acquisition.. The Flames are super soft and Tyler brings another element to the bottom 6. Seeing he can actually score, comes with speed and kills penalties, makes me think he'll be a lot more like Hathaway. 4th round pick is a good value deal.

Pit was great for Philly. Our bottom 6 missed him and was a mistake not to resign him here Solid bottom player who doesn't take shifts off, hits hard, goes to the net and makes good use of his ice time. Was one of the better all around players for Philly in his short time here.

The Flames don't have any NHL ready prospects. They've already committed to Zary and Pelletier at least starting in the AHL. There's really no one else. Phillips might be the closest, but he doesn't fit at all the the current roster. He'll be Czarnik 2.0 if he's lucky. He needs to be in the top six somewhere and paired up with a dominant centre.

This is a good move and fit for the Flames. Tyler is a lunch bucket type that Sutter will love. I expect him to put up way better numbers than he did with the Kraken.

Are there not other bottom 6 forwards you could sign at this cap that wouldn't have cost any draft assets to acquire?

I wonder what the kraken took to take Pitlick instead of bunting. Otherwise a fourth round pick seems a rather lackluster draft pick. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Would Pitlick have been Tre's choice? Maybe. But it sure looks like Sutter had a hand in it, at least. Tre's obviously got people skills and is a workaholic. Sutter obviously has great hockey smarts but marginal people skills. If they can work together (I think they can) This could be a real positive sign for next season.

Maybe Pit and Looch are buddies too from their time in deadmonton.

Thanks Gov!

I like the move. Flames' bottom 6 needs a revamp and this is a good start.

Very bold statement you are making. Do you have stats to back it up?

Me too. Tyler is a Minny boy and I want him to thrive with the Flames.

How many are centers? How many actually use their size? How many are less than 1.75 million on a 1 year deal? How many of them are signing in Calgary? Now give me actual names of these players instead of just saying "why didn't you get someone else?"

There are a number of variables to consider. A trade for a 4th round pick is nothing.

Signing bottom 6 forwards didn't go so well last season, I don't have any complaints about switching it up.

Value piece gimmie a break šŸ˜‚ heā€™s so valuable that heā€™s played on 4 different teams in the last 5 years and hasnā€™t been resigned by a single one. He kills penalties?? Thatā€™s laughable.

ā€œ However, Pitlick was not particularly effective during those penalty-killing minutes. According to Natural Stat Trick, the Coyotes allowed 137.48 shot attempts-per-60 with Pitlick on the ice during PKs as well as 9.48 expected goals against-per 60, 65.75 scoring chances against-per60, and 25.40 high-danger chances against-per-60. He ranked worst on the Coyotes in all of these defensive categoriesā€.

Yeah what a defensive stallion. Good luck with the poor mans poor mans Bennett.

So you donā€™t like Pitlick or his advanced metrics. Then sign Hyman for $40M/7yrs and be happy. When heā€™s 34 and looks like Lucic, please donā€™t whine about it.

I've seen every game that Pitlick has played in a Flyers sweater.
If you have never watched him play, then I can understand that this might seem like an underwhelming trade. Give him a chance... I guarantee you're gonna love his brand of hockey. He's a terrific 4th liner.
Busts his butt EVERY shift. First to the corner. Plays the body. Responsible with the puck. Stays out of the penalty box.

I'd maybe wait a bit on clowning on them. At least until it becomes clear that they're not going to win the next four Cups.

So with Pitlick in at C, for the fourth line, what does this mean for Ruzicka?

We were hoping he has enough talent to be a 3rd line C. Any chance he could start out on Backlund's wing and learn the tricks of the trade?

Pitlick is a right shot winger who has played center in the past but was on the record yesterday as saying he is more comfortable on the wing but is willing to play wherever the team wants him.
