Sam Woo: Thoughts On Loss of Bastian To Kraken Expansion Draft
- SamuelPWoo

Bastian and Mcleod were pretty much the only duo to have a pulse and bring some energy to the game, but by no means is he not replaceable. If we wanted to replace him today, I am sure a 4th would pry Givani Smith from Detroits hands. The kid is a pure shot of adrenaline in the lineup.

Kraken had some huge misses in my opinion, overpaying Oleksiak, passing on Cal Foote, Josh Bailey, Collin Miller, Dadanov, and Taresenko (tho I don't have access to his medical records). Coming out of this without a single draft pick was quite a surprise to me. Almost like the GM's colluded and agreed to offer zero draft picks.

At least we are getting new articles, and this one is relevant to the current events that unfolded. Now who are your favourite 4? Mine go:

1. Power
2. Beniers
3. McTavish
4. Hughes

We land one of them and I am thrilled.

I never know which blog to comment on 😭. Iffy on Tarasenko, if we get him. I guess I need to give up on letting the kids play and getting another good pick. I’m just terrified of delaying or foiling a rebuild that we’ve endured for so long.. but we do have some good prospects. Tarasenko just scares me a bit, and especially if half salary is retained... I don’t want to give up much to get what’s left of him. This feels like Kovy with his back issues.. was half the player he was prior. I want players that make the kids better. If Tarasenko is a liability.. don’t want to be paying for the name. He’s no spring chicken either.
Whatever helps the kids develop.

Hall signing very team friendly deal with Boston really squashes the "selfish" narrative that people have been trying to weave. 4 Years x $6 mil

Idk who I want. Dmarsden mentioned Clarke having knee issues? That concerns me more than Hughes’ foot. But if we don’t pick Hughes we risk losing Jack.. depending on how much he wants to play with his brother, and how much he judges the organization by not picking Hughes and leaving cuz he doesn’t feel valued or something ridiculous. Kids these days.
I’d personally like the goal scorer Guenther. We have our top 2 centers (hopefully). But again, idk much about any of these guys. Haven’t been reading or watching like with last year. It’s such a crapshoot.

Maybe his declining play over the last 2 years. He’ll be 34 at the end of that deal. I think he’s fortunate to get 4yrs of security. I thought maybe a 3yr deal at 7-8 mil would’ve been it.

The brother thing should have zero influence on the pick but yeah if hes on the board Hughes is definitely going to be the pick. If hes not then it could be any of Eklund, Clarke, Edvinsson, or Guenther

My top 5 is:
Beniers
Eklund
Hughes
Guenther
Clarke

100% agree that the brother thing shouldn't matter one bit. Unless McDavid's brother is available, on the same year that McD is becoming a UFA. Haha.

No McTavish on your list? He really cought my attention solely on the high praises from both Wright and Bedard following the U18's. They both said he was their favourite line mate, and they just gelled and read eachother so well. After hearing such high praises from two kids that could very well become franchise cornerstones, he became hard to ignore. Most scouts compare him to an O'Reilly, but with better hands. Not knocking Guenther or Clark. Apparently picks 2-8 are so clustered that it could be a total toss-up.

Barclay Goodrow's deal with #NYR is 6 years, $21.85 million. Official AAV is $3.642 million.

Today is starting off well.

Did Bedard or Wright play with the other top prospects? No? Then who’s to say the other top prospects wouldn’t be even better to play with? That’s nice and all, but scouts are evaluating more than how well guys play with each other. All these players should be much different in a few years. So we’re looking at various abilities, where guys can improve, how they will translate to the NHL game. Everything Wright and Bedard say is relative to what they’ve experienced so far in their juvenile years of playing hockey against other kids. It doesn’t hold that much weight to me, no pun intended haha

Term is a doozy, but that cap hit isn’t terrible. It’s not like a Clarkson deal or anything.

32 career goals. Clarkson at least had 30 in his last season with us.

..true. Forgot about that. Still an inflated contract. His goals werent “goal-scorer” goals and he wasn’t much of a passer or skater. I was never a big clarkson fan.

I still remember Clarkson being a little out if control scoring and then hanging on the net vs philly in the playoffs

I wonder what Coleman will get as a UFA my bet is he goes to Dallas

If the rumored Hyman deal in Edmonton is true, he's getting 5.5mil x 8 years. Not sure if Coleman gets the same name recognition but I'd imagine something like 4-4.5x4 from Dallas.

I would go Hughes
Eklund
Guenther

And not because of Hughes brother, I think if he is developed properly he could end up being the best dman in this year's draft and has great skating ability and will help out with the offense and he isn't small but will bulk up

Eklund has looked very good and has been rising and has the holtz connection, very skilled

Guenther due to his goal scoring ability which the devil's need

I just hope we go BPA, preference is D and hope we don't reach

That’s the thing, I felt like Bastian was better than him and has potential to continue improving. Meh.

Brenden Lemieux is a worthless plug. Why would you ever want him on your team.
