The reality is, losing anyone on this list doesn’t really inspire any type of deep concern or Old Testament shirt rip (that’s right. Hulkamania was actually inspired by King David).

Stecher is as good as gone. Still can't get my head around why Stevie did not protect him. Maybe Seattle will take Svetch.... but I doubt it given how bad his injury history is... he's not been durable.

It’s a shame that STL exposed Dunn. That’s a deal i would have liked to see made

Nice interview with Leddy. He’s got to be really excited that he can keep the beard

Gustav Lindstrom will never be close to as good a player as Stecher already is.

I have to agree. I’d be glad to be wrong. It’s possible Stecher told them he was going to test free agency (just speculation). I’m sure Yzerman did some due diligence there

I'm not sure it would matter if Stetcher planned to hit free agency, odds were very high he'd be trade bait at the deadline unless he had a terrible season or was injured. Seems more likely he's considered fairly easily (and cheaply) replaced, and older than Lindstrom.

What are you talking about? He is not UFA, has another year left.

I meant after this season. He’s a free agent after this coming year. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/redwings

Definitely replaceable. Lindstrom just seems like a 6/7 guy would be glad to be wrong

Talk to Seattle then. I am sure some of these players will get recycled. Oh, wait a minute ...they are taking Tarasenko! Nevermind...

Surprised at Stecher.....but not. The names unprotected are pretty much expected, and think that Stecher or Svech are gone. Would really like to see Namestnikov stay, being honest. DUNN?!?!?! THAT was a surprise, but nothing compared to Price.

Popcorn's cookin', wishin' I could listen to Don Cherry a bit to get his read on price, and the week to come. It's coming down to crunch time for moves to come.

This is TRULY a once-in-a-lifetime environment with the after-effects of COVID, an expension draft, altered schedules, condenced swasons, etc.... The TRULY strong GMs, I think, will show themselves over the next few weeks. This is gonna be GOOD, lads!!!

J, I'm REALLY diggin' so many new names dropping in to check your blog out, brother. Shows exactly how dang good this blog is....and how incredibly proficient you are, and the impact you have on your readers!

Thanks for that! I’m chuckling as Montreal released that Price has a hip injury, retracted and now it’s a knee injury. Similar to what happened with Weber. Expose the player then announce a bunch of injuries to turn off Seattle. Spin cycle is on, my friend.

Landeskong?!?!?!? Good night😳. I’m not really surprised…NOT! That really threw me. For sure he’s Seattle-bound.

I had to check what I was reading when I saw Price’s “injury” update, thought it was some political hack-site…. “Hmmmm, he has a hang-nail, and it requires complete amputation to the elbow!” What a boat-load. Why isn’t that tampering? Just seems to foul the process. Like I said; This is gonna be a very interesting 3 weeks or so!

I read somewhere that Price is owed a signing bonus payment of $11 million in September *in addition to his $10+ salary*. Seattle would be on the hook for that if they chose him. Even without the rumors of alleged injury, given his age, past injury history, etc. I'd be surprised if they chose him. I know he still delivered some amazing goal tending in the playoffs, but that's a steep pricetag for an awful lot of uncertainty.

Landeskog is a UFA so Seattle picking him would only give them up to the opening of UFA market to sign him. If i were them i wouldn't waste a pick on guys like him or Ovechkin since they would likely just re-sign with their former team when the UFA market opens or go wherever they want. Pick someone else and then if they become UFAs then make an offer.

Price has an 11 million bonus but his salary for the season is 2 million so 13 million in all. Next year his bonus is 6.75 million and his salary for the season is 1 million. Even though his cap hit will be 10.5 million for the next 5 years, his actual salary (including the bonus money) will be below that after this year.

They have a FA window to sign these guys before the draft! Then the signing will be revealed on draft day

I would draft Goodrow from NY with a signed contract in my pocket, draft Gourd from Tampa and sign Coleman in FA and reunite that line and play them as my top line!

That makes sense. Appreciate the insight, made it click for me. With COL have protracted and (if you believe the media) contentious negotiations, leaving him unprotected seems like a bit of a wake-up call. There’re aren’t too many teams who could pay what he wants due to the flat-cap, and that’ll probably be the case for a few years. This whole negotiation in the flat-cap era has a ton of twists n turns. It’s really interesting to try to read between that lines.

Again, thanks for the insight!!

Why all the love for Stretcher? He was an undersized d that was consistently pushed around and overmatched. Not a bad player but I have zero concern about losing him.

I'd be more worried about losing Svech. Even with all the injuries he occasionally showed glimpses of why he was a first rounder.

From my perspective, we have a dearth of forwards, so losing Svech wouldn't hurt too badly. It's taken forever for him to develop and injuries have derailed most of his progress. I don't see him doing much better under the current system. I think it fair for him to have a shot someplace else - fresh start.

Stetcher's a serviceable D-Man. We have a paucity of those. Keeping him would enable us to keep that tank closer to full while kids develop and the market shakes out. Now, I agree that he's under-sized, but something's better than nothing. Good skater, decent numbers, good vision.

It's a tough call, whom should be protected. I'd have been ok if TS was left unprotected, but still concerned about the gap left on the back end. 'Course, I AM an amateur, so the above merely represents my opinion....which may be worthless in some people's eyes 😂

I love you guys but it’s astonishing to hear you guys value stetcher higher than lindstrom.. clearly not many people in this chat played defense growing up. Watch lindstrom when the season starts. He’s never going to blow your mind in terms of points but he does all the little things right and plays good defense.. those skills win you championships. I love stetch but he’s a forward on the blue line which is replaceable always has and always will. Don’t get me wrong I hope Seattle doesn’t take him but protecting him over lindstrom when we have hronek and Seider would have been stupid. Side note to anyone who is crying about the second round pick we traded.. we draft 37,47 if we don’t get the right guy and NYI does at 51 that’s on our scouting department.. plus he’ll be flipped at deadline or maybe just maybe sign a one year.
