Unprotect Siegenthaler? I highly doubt that. I think the Devils will protect Severson, Graves and Siegenthaler, Both Butcher and Subban will be available.

Very solid deal! Graves is the type of guy this team has been trying to draft for the past 2 or 3 years, and he checks a lot of boxes for what Fitz said was the biggest need for this team. Cant really find anything to dislike about it. It also clears up the expansion protection, because we dont need to decide between Subban and Butcher anymore, since both will be exposed. Severson, Siegenthaler, and Graves are the 3 D to be protected

Theres still another D add to be had at some point this offseason but as of right now we're looking at something like:

Smith-Sevo
Graves-Subban
Siegenthaler-??

Hopefully we can somehow land a top 4 RHD(pipe dreams of Dougie) so we can drop Subban to the 3rd pairing. Honestly i dont hate that top 4. Its slowly getting there

Amazing what acquiring a second pair guy does. We need depth but we are a D away from dramatically improving that back end. That D could even be Butcher if he’s around and gets a chance.

Another solid move. Would love to see them snag one more nhl regular like this before the season
That second rounder is more like a third anyway. Maltz will prob top out 4th liner

Well you keep him on the 2nd pairing and keep his minutes to 18 or so and he's decent, it's when you start playing him 22-25min a night when the trouble starts

I know Sabres games are pretty unwatchable but Risto has been dogpoop his entire career and there is no amount of sheltering that will fix that.

Great deal. Obviously col couldn’t protect him sand didn’t want to lose him for nothing. A little surprised this is the best offer they got but I guess everyone has their own protection lists to worry about

Actually he was decent last year, started to cut down his minutes and this year he played most of the year with rookies. Put him with Graves on your 2nd pair and probably make a good physical pairing.

You read this as "ristolainen was better in limited minutes". I read this as "the sabres were better when ristolainen wasn't playing". Also none of us have the power to make trades here, Kevyn. But nice try.

Happy to see him go. He was a turnover machine in the playoffs and part of what sank the Vegas series. Probably would have been satisfied with a handful of pucks just to get the cap space, but the 2nd round pick is a great return. Does Maltsev have any kind of future?

I think you're mistaking him for Girard, dude was a tragedy in that Vegas series. Maltsev is nothing more than a 4th line tweener.

Hey don't really care if he goes there, it was Dreger or Friedman that brought up NJ being interested. And can say what YOU want but he would definitely be one of your top 4 Dman, Sabres might suck, but it's not like you guys are loaded at D.

Ok Suter can still play yes and won’t cost a lot, Ok l can buy that but Leadership and mentoring are not something you would want him doing. Unless you want to teach young players to run to the owner to complain about things every time he doesn’t get his way.

Are you sure you don't mean Nemeth? None of them were any good when it counted most. I'm sure you're going to get a lot of help from Graves but I'm just saying don't be surprised when he botches it up when the Devils make the playoffs.
