They went from Chia to Holland. I'd say the real problem is ownership's decision making.

Did you watch many Hawks games over the last couple of seasons, or are you just ripping him based on analytics? He tried to anchor a team that was awful on D from the forwards to the rest of the D, and he was usually paired with a rookie. While not near the vintage DK, he still can bring a lot of valuable minutes on the ice in a better situation. Whether the Oilers are that fit, who knows... |

Shocked more than anything the Hawks did not have to retain any salary. |

My thought is that I'm thrilled Holland isn't decimating the Wings any longer..stunned any organization would want this man as their gm.... the game has past him by, like years ago.... not to mention the Mike Illitch checkbook being closed severely exposed Holland as a shell of a gm.... I feel bad for Edmonton fans having to endure this nonsense, and no offense to Duncan Keith, but to compare this deal to the Chelios acquisition years back is ridiculous, Keith will not play and provide quality minutes as Chelios did and did into his 40s.... perhaps Yzerman can trade Frans Nielson to Edmonton... |

Love it, finally someone wants to come to EDM. The cap hit hurts a bit but the actual dollars owed at 2.1 this season and 1.5 next season played a big factor here. at those numbers totally worth it. |

I don't know how Katz is able to be a successful businessman and so bad at hiring GMs. |

Klefbom might be done so I can see why maybe Keith is attractive, but the cost was way to high. Chi not retaining any salary???? Normally that would net Edm a pick back, not the other way around. Still don't get it????
I hope edm is not done tinkering. Smith did a decent job but they need a strong top goalie to take that next step. And find a good winger for McDavid. And one more anchor on D to jump into the top 4. Keith at best should be a 4-6 on the depth chart.
The fear is that Holland will try and go cheap and find another bandaid solution to pair up with Smith. Look at the final 4. Varly/Sorokin, Vasilevksy, Price Fleury/Lehner. Not even close.
Connor must be shaking his head. Hard for UFA's to come to edm, even with Leon and Connor on the team. Have to trade for players with term with potential/established already.
not to say these are options, but this seems to be the year to get those kind of players IF available and dont have NMC attached to them. |

The responses by Chicago fans on the Oilers thread yesterday expressing outrage for anyone pointing out Keith's shortcomings was trolling mastery.
This is the worst trade of the salary cap era. Worse than Erat/Forsberg. Worse than Reinhart. This is just putrid and cannot be justified. |

His ownership must be some boondoggle that gives him a tax advantage. Has to be. |

In order for a trade to be a bad trade, you'll have to have lost more than you have gained.
The Oilers lost basically nothing. What they're getting is experience, mentality, culture... while they don't show up on stats sheets for individuals, they show up on the stats sheets for teammates.
But the Millennials judge all players in a vacuum of their own play rather than how a player has any form of aura whatsoever. That's why they make terrible armchair GMs. And that ridiculous attitude is infecting the media and they're asking equally stupid questions.
Could Holland have gotten Chicago to retain 1.5M/y? Yes... but are people complaining that the Oilers are losing 1.5m/y? Because that's about all they lost in this deal. Jones is a nothing defensemen... you can sign AHL free agents at that calibre... and a 3rd round pick? Like the Oilers didn't give away much. And people treat Keith like he's Jack Johnson: quite the contrary... Keith knows what it takes to win in this league. |

I always wonder about those people that can't balance a checkbook and live paycheck to paycheck. Then I realize it's these low IQ fans that don't understand how the salary cap works. |

A one year deal, its barely palatable. But next year, this deal just put the ability to negotiate, Yamamoto, Nurse, et al at risk. Hell you still need to sign Larsson and Barrie this year.
Keith (was) one of the best. He's a beast but his game isn't in beast mode anymore. 2015 Keith and this is a steal for Holland. At 2.75 per, this makes sense. Meh... |

Why would you want Barrie back? He’s a one trick pony, and that trick ain’t what the Oilers need right now. |

I hope they bring him back and sign Bear to an 8 year deal. Keith brings a winning pedigree is a great concept, so by that premise, maybe the Oil should sign Tom Brady? |

Edmonton actually needs more guys with good stats. They have 0 depth and this eats up a lot of that cap space they had this offseason. He's 38 and a shell of his former self. It's an ugly move. Do you really think their issue is experience and 'Culture"? Looks like no depth is the biggest issue to me. |
