So any thoughts on Ken Holland's latest deal? Seems a lot like what we got used to his last few years in Detroit.

I obviously can’t say enough about Duncan Keith and his career. I have to think this is a culture thing. Sit him with your young defensemen and have him be a player/coach. Keith wanted to move to Western Canada, so it’s a win for him there. As a player, the miles have been hard, hard miles. That group needs the defense to be transformed/matured etc. it could be a big move. Otherwise you just lost a younger defenseman and a 3rd round pick. Hope it works out for everyone. Keith is a leader, for sure.

Quick hits on Bert per nhl rumors

The Detroit Red Wings are listening to calls on forward Tyler Bertuzzi. Teams were calling the Red Wings during to the season to see of his availability and talks have resumed. Nothing is imminent. Potential interested teams include Flyers, Kings, Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins.

Word is that the Kings are high on Bertuzzi. Would you trade Bertuzzi and the 22nd pick for the 8th pick and LA’s first (next year) and a prospect?
That way the Wings get their goaltender without sacrificing their high pick. Not to mention two first round picks again next year with better prospects involved.

Maybe I'm overvaluing our players, but it'd take a lot for me to be okay with moving on from Bert. Unless there's some sort of underlying medical issue, I wouldn't want to give him up. Tampa closed the deal on two cups with sandpaper, and Bert is the only sandpaper on the roster at the moment.

I know we have a couple prospects that fit that mold, too, but there's no telling since there's just prospects. Bert still has some good years in him and I think he's a really good piece in our line up.

For the right haul I would trade anyone from our roster this past year, excluding Zadina, Vrana, Hronek and Larkin. Yzerman proved with the Mantha deal he is playing hardball. I am more than willing to be patient for many more years, cuz I know Yzerman knows what he is doing, Tampa is proof.

Bert is heart and soul. Sort of what I loved about Tatar. I don’t think a move happens unless Yzerman got what he wanted out of it. From a personal standpoint, it would be a gut punch for a few. I love how he plays. He and Larkin yell at each other on the ice. You’ll hear “show me something!” During games. When they’re together it’s just awesome

That’s it right there. After Mantha, it’s “anything goes”. There’s no way to guess like you could with Holland. There are no leaks for the most part. It’s just done when it’s done.

I drop by this page as I think you do a great job Jeremy! As a Leafs fan, I've often said that Bertuzzi would be an amazing fit...from the outside, he seems like a player any team would want (gritty, hard working, good teammate, chips in offensively can move up/down the lineup, etc.!). To hear his name linked the the Leafs has me excited. Obviously understand he had a tough year last season and is currently recovering from back surgery, but always wondered by last year went the way it did (I didn't expect him to be a player that Yzerman would take to arbitration...really thought he would be a core player for them). Are there red flags you see as someone closer to the Red Wings. I see him as a 4-4.5 million player any day (that actually seems very reasonable for what he brings) over 5 years. Do you see why Yzerman is going so hard on this player?

I thought the Wings core was their 2013 draft class and beyond. It seems like to Yzerman, it's the 2017 class and beyond. He seemed to be clear that Mantha was going to be traded towards the end of his new contract, they got assets and a replacement. Now they can flip Vrana in a few years to fill some gaps, but I'm not sure Bert is part of the core of the rebuild, as much as I like him as a player.

I thought the Wings were further along in their rebuild than they were. Yzerman made it clear when he took the job that we're a long way off from being competitive, so it seems like he moved the timeline back. If he can get good assets for these next two pretty strong draft years, I think he'll pull the trigger.

All they need is to get Wright next year and Bedard or Michkov in 2023 and we should be in good shape

Parise and Suter both bought out today.

I'd be 100% interested in Suter assuming it is near league min. Have to believe they will package together and head to Tampa and help go for the 3 peat.

Tampa trades McDonough (after they threaten to expose him in the ex-draft, McDonough agrees to be traded to a team he wants to play on). Tampa signs Suter and Parise each for a million AAV for 2 yrs.

Yzerman has kept almost every deal at 1 or 2 years. He spent a full year watching Larkin on and off the ice before he made him captain. I agree on Bertuzzi value-wise. I think, total speculation, that Yzerman is very aware of avoiding too many deals at longer term. Each season has seen significant change. No clue what the disconnect in discussions were with Bertuzzi. Part of it is figuring out post COVID financials. Part of it is keeping a lot of cap space open. It’s rumored he’s offering a 1 yr deal to Vrana. Just seems very cautious in long term commitments right now. That’s my best guess. I love Bert, I think he could find a place on most rosters and make it work.
