Saad is basically just a small upgrade on Zucker. Similar skill, slightly bigger and more physical. Biggest difference is that Saad is one of those guys that picks it up in the playoffs.

If you could trade Zucker and sign Saad it would be great obviously. But I think the only way the Pens can pull it off is if Saad PREFERS coming to Pittsburgh. Otherwise, why would any team trade assets for Zucker when they could sign Saad for free?

I think most players would love the idea of going home and winning a cup but each guy is different and money/weather/tax make a big difference.

Saad knows there won’t be any cup winning in Pittsburgh

I am going to put down $1k on the Pens winning the cup this year, last I saw it was 25:1 odds.

They need to make a few good moves to boost this D group and they need to find a reliable Goalie but I think they can put together a good enough group to get it done this year.

Both are good targets. Beggars can't be choosers when it cones to UFAs.

Is Saad any better than Zucker or Kapanen at this point?

Congrats on wasting $1k. Weird flex but okay.

Getting a goalie is really important.

I think equally important is getting a great defenceman for the second pair. One of Pettersson, Matheson or Marino would be fine for the second pair but only if there is someone really strong on the other side.

If you flip out Pettersson for Suter to play with Marino I would be happy.
If you flip out Marino for Parayko or Manson to play with Matheson I would be happy also.

Pettersson/Matheson + Marino is never going to cut it as a second pair if you want to win a cup.

Two year term length. So a team like the Avs who wanted a contract that expired then when they need to give MacKinnon an extension.

(Not saying Avs specifically want him, just easy to fit the term when it's right in the blog)

A year ago, that would have been reversed. A year from now I could see it reversing again.

Age curve wise Kap is most likely to maintain his level of play.

Ron Hextall was able to get a 3rd round pick for Zac Rinaldo. So basically, everyone has some value, just a matter of how much.

Well Sweeney is a moron so that certainly helps. Rule of thumb should be to trade with the bad GMs.

Over time sure. Next year I don't think so. I'd favor past performance. I don't think Kapanen's even strength points per 60 is sustainable.

It was a bad week for Sweeney. He did recover by flipping Jones though. It didn't help that he botched the draft despite having 3 consecutive first rounders (the only one that panned out was their own, Debrusk at 14th).

Well yeah he’s due for shooting percent and PDO regression but he’s definitely the most likely player to hit 40 points in each of the next 3 seasons.

I think they both do. Bad as a year as this was for Zucker, he still played at a 39 point pace.
