With the Cap freeze of the last 2 years and lost revenues teams have experienced due to Covid I don’t think your formula will hold water for this years contracts.
RNH new contract is a contract that I believe takes the Cap freeze and lost revenues into consideration.

while they are all good players i see it as too much money for each olayer
sorokin should be a 3.5-4 mill
pelech 4.5 -5
beau should be 3.5
not a one of these guys have proven to be worth this kind of money .. high priced deals on mediocre unproven talent is what got the Isles in the cap situation they are in !
At some oint these g ms need to get together and figure out a realistic pay schedule for these guys! no one in the real world gets75-100% raises.. they just dont!

If I was him I’d be one of the last ones to sign .let other players set the market .also remember the NHL got an a big amount of money with the new television deal so I would not give any hometown discount

Zero shot they give Sorokin 5 mill

Pelech is an RFA which gives them Leverage.. Pulock got 5 mill AAV. he will Maybe get 6 but I see him getting 5.5 for a 2 year bridge when they will have a higher cap and more guys off the books.

Beau is same situation.. Lou uses all the time he has and generally gets guys to sign "Prove it" contracts when they are RFA. That obvoiusly changes if someone signs and offer sheet.. or with UFA's like Casey, but I don't see anyone in this mkt doing that these off season.

My piggy senses tell me that Pelech will sign for something between 4.25/4.75 on a short term deal.

I'd hope they lock him up long-term, if he's willing. I fear that there's a real chance that Pulock could walk after this season and I don't want to risk that with Pelech again in 2-3 years.

They have over $20 million coming off the cap next summer.. why would Pulock leave?

Yes but, well...not really

Assuming Leddy goes to Seattle, than $5.5M of that comes off the cap this year so we can sign this year's RFA/UFA's.

Plus, as of now, Pelech/Sorokin/Beau will be getting raises. Dobson will be due a sizeable raise after next season. The cap won't be going up for another couple years. I'm not saying it's a foregone conclusion or that they can't put in work between now and then to keep him (or anyone else, for that matter)...but it's not entirely far-fetched.

Pulock is making $5mill this year.. how much more you think he is going to get? He isn't exactly an offensive powerhouse defenseman... so u want to say he would make a raise of $2mil? I mean he certianly isn't going to make 9 or 10 mill a year.. correct? so you only need $2mill to keep him.. correct? Pretty sure you can find that pretty easily.. Cal and Leo are $6.5 mill. IF you keep Cal and let Leo go I am guessing you just cut about 4.5 mill.

I don't see Pulock going anywhere

I’d prefer they lock him up for term as well, but I can’t see it happening initially.

That being said, once the money is available from the ugly ass contracts that will be expiring within the next couple years, I think both Pelech AND Pulock will be signed with term.

33 thoughts on the league, trades, signings, strategies, etc., and the only one on the Isles is that it finally dawned on Friedman during game 5 of the SCF this year that the Islanders are kind of good.

26. As I watched the Lightning overpower Montreal, I thought how good the Islanders were to push them to 1-0 in a seventh game.

I know most fans/analysts are already waving goodbye to Leddy and Eberle, but I think they might regret parting with Leddy. I get that it's probably a necessity given cap realities, but, for all his faults, I've seen Leddy skate the puck out of danger and turn it into an offensive opportunity more times than I can count (which, to be fair, isn't very high ). Toews was a similar player, but, without the two of them, it's difficult to see who does that for them now. Dobson didn't show enough of that this year, imo.

I don't hate Leddy and would prefer to keep him. But unless Lou can pull a rabbit out of a hat, the Islanders are going to lose a good player in the expansion draft. Because of cap considerations, I suspect that Lou is likely to leave unprotected some decent, but well-paid players, like Leddy and Eberle. I'm thinking he will go the 7 - 3 route, so that he can protect the Identity Line among others. If he can only protect 3 D, then it has to be Pulock and Mayfield (our bargain-rate playoff warrior), and presumably a signed Pelech. So unfortunately Leddy is the odd man out.

This is why the loss still hurts so much. I believe if the Isles could have gotten past Tampa they would have won the cup.

Exactly right Jimmy. As great a team Tampa is, the Isles could have won that series and that is also what makes some of the lineup decisions that much more frustrating. Very difficult to get to this point again next year.
