Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now cited a league source claiming the Toronto Maple Leafs were among the clubs interested in Jones from the beginning. He also believes Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman could be up to something.

Kevin Allen speculates the Red Wings could use their plentiful cap space this summer to acquire good contracts or players that have to be moved by cap-strapped teams. He thinks Yzerman will call the St. Louis Blues about Vince Dunn. The Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild could also shop a defenseman to cut costs or because they can’t protect them in the expansion draft.

I'm not sure Yzerman would be interested in Jones since he seems to want to become a UFA and unless Yzerman was planning to flip him at the deadline for more it would make no sense. I'm hoping if he is talking to the Jackets that it is about Werenski. Personally if Power, Beniers, Hughes, Clarke and Eklund are gone by pick 6, i would be willing to move that pick in a deal for Werenski...heck i would probably be willing to do it if the first 4 on my list were gone.

Yzerman has talked to every club but the 2 in the playoffs still. Definitely interested in Dunn. Jones, I agree. I don’t see paying the ask for a player that won’t stick around. Whoever gets him knows it’s temporary. If CBJ will retain it will crank the price up even more.

I’d give a kidney (figuratively) for Werenski but I don’t think it would happen. CBJ wants to reload and be competitive. Losing Jones and Werenski would thin out the blue line way too much

I don't think they can just reload. They are missing too many pieces to reload with all the players that have left or wants to leave. Every year they lose one or more players that want out. I don't think they have the prospect pool to reload either. They need to rebuild even if they don't want to use that term publicly.

I think it's only a matter of time before Werenski leaves either by UFA or demanding a trade and Laine the same. Obviously they would get a better deal by dealing someone with a RFA contract left over someone that will be a UFA and might just be a rental. I'm not going to hold my breath for Werenski to play for the Wings but i would deal the 6th overall this year in a deal for him if those 4 were off the board by the time the Wings pick.

I’d give up the pick for sure. Here’s the “buzz” on CBJ. Laine will give it a go IF they bring in a top center. Buffalo wants 4 first round picks for Eichel (over this and the next couple drafts). Reinhart could be on their radar, Monahan was reportedly on the block. They are fine in net for now. Between what they want for Jones and what they’re willing to give up, jarmo will try to make a go of it. Except for Panarin, most of the guys they lost haven’t done that well. We’ll see what they accomplish, but I think Jarmo can make a go of it.

Police in Novi, Michigan, said the mortar-style firework tilted slightly and started to fire toward people nearby Sunday night. The 24-year-old Kivleniek was in a hot tub and tried to get clear with several other people, police Lt. Jason Meier said.

That’s terrible. This whole event is so very sad.
Cannot express how genuinely badly I feel for him, the Jackets, and his family. All of hockey has lost a bright, rising star.

Rest peacefully….
