The whole series goes back to an interview Yzerman did. He said he’d literally be calling every single team this summer. Just trying to let readers guess at deals. This is a tough one. They do have 2 good goalies, may need to shed cap space to sign some RFAs, etc. not much jumps out, but i committed to doing every single playoff team. Thankfully only two left!

How would you feel about picking up Andrew Ladd's contract for a 2022 1st? Leaves them some space to work with and nets us another pick. Two years left, so maybe another sweetner? Mid level prospect? I could see them trying to pawn that off.

I hate to say this, but I’d do a lot for an extra first. Nothing illegal, mind you. We have space, a first is very valuable regardless of where it falls. If this were you and me as GMs, I think you’d have a deal. I may even throw in a meatball sub or a coney dog

Wayne Gretzky got traded. Anyone can get traded. Is it likely to happen, not at all. Never know if you don't ask.

Everything in this world is for sale......for the right price. You just may not agree with that price.

Also no need to be a d!ck ya doucher. Jeremy has literally done this for every team giving us Wings fans something to read about and bs in the offseason. Just becuase you don't like it and your team was bounced again doesn't mean you have to be an a$$ about it.

Keep it up Jeremy

Leddy and Eberle are available, all Wings extra picks make a deal easy. Sorokin does not need to be protected for expansion so Islanders can hold Varlomov until after expansion draft.
If Isles can trade one of the two skaters and lose other in expansion, they can keep Varly.

I’m guessing you didn’t read the whole article. I literally said that Lou wouldn’t want to part ways with sororkin. What I did was lay out pieces that would interest Yzerman but with the caveat that it probably would t work. I come from a family with recovering addicts, please use your words a bit more carefully. I’ve had members die from OD in front of their children.
I concisely laid out the difficulties of any such deal, but you clearly didn’t take the time to read that

Yes, if the Isles clear out Leddy and Eberle, they will be able to sign their RFA's. But at what cost? Leddy has a $5.5M cap hit x 1 but is owed $7M in salary, Eberle the same AAV but x 3 ....
Leddy could be a stop gap for the Wings for 1 year....maybe more for a much lesser salary.... But a $7M salary requires a big sweetener to accompany him!!
My guess is they make a deal with the Kracken to leave Varly exposed and get their cap dump without having to give another asset, and then make a deal for one of Leddy or Eberle at the draft. OR Varly is moved at the draft and one of JE or NL is dealt to the Kracken with a sweetener..... The thing is that Varly is a valuable trade chip and can get assets in return and maybe be a cap dump as well, whereas the others will not be cost effective.

Good points all. Varly has the 16 team no trade, so he has some control (so does Eberle). We’re at a point where we can eat salary, but yes a sweetener would be needed for sure. I don’t even mind being the middle man of salary retention on either for draft picks. Yzerman has been a wizard loading up on those

INSIST ON 2022 PICKS! 2022 promises to be a deeper draft and will be better scouted.

Ladd, 2022 1st round pick and Samuel Bolduc for future considerations.

Given Ladd has 2 years left it needs to be more than a late 1st and Bolduc would fit the need of a left D prospect.

Sorokin and Bolduc are in the Islanders long term plans. Not saying they’d never be moved, but rather that it’s HIGHLY unlikely (especially Sorokin).

I imagine a deal done to dump Ladd would include picks and Bellows. No idea why the organization isn’t keen on the kid, as he’s scored and shown well at every call up.

Eberle and perhaps Leddy may be on the block, but it’d be a crapshoot as to whether Eberle would agree to go to Detroit. Leddy wouldn’t have a choice since he has no clause. But as he has only one year left, would Detroit want him?

For me, if i was taking on 2 years of dead cap space and paying that salary for Ladd, i would need a prospect that i want and need...Bellows just isn't it. I don't see where Bellows would even fit on the Wings. Wings need a top 2 center and left dmen which i why i said Bolduc.

Eberle just doesn't fit with 3 years left at his age. Leddy maybe Yzerman would take him with a pick like he did for Staal hoping he can flip him at the deadline for more picks/prospects if he plays well enough.

Yeah no chance on Buldoc or possibly even Salo. I think those are the next 2 kids in line for LHD in future

For every 100 NHL goalies that start out promising, maybe two end up being "generational." Right now Vasilevskiy is a far superior young goalie. Sorokin has looked good, but not even close to any guarantee. Didn't even hold his starting position through the postseason.

Re: the Islanders goalie situation, Sorokin is exempt from the expansion draft (his KHL seasons don't count against his pro seasons experience for draft purposes) and Ken Appleby meets the exposure requirements.

They are going to be tight against the cap like most teams, and yes Sorokin needs a new contract, but I don't think they are really under any significant pressure to move a goalie. I don't think they're going to have major issues clearing out the cap space needed to re-sign Pelech and Sorokin.

I did not realize that Sorokin still needed his hand held. Varly needs to stay then and Leddy or Eberle need to be moved , and maybe Uncle Leo. But the isles will be on the short end of the trade deal with all of these as they are cap dumps. Maybe Stevie takes on Leddy with the equivalent of a 1st coming with him. Would he accept Leddy and Bellows for futures?

lets not be so overly sensitive about a stranger asking if you were high! get a hold of your self
i read the entire thing twice now and i still say the same... you have a better chance of seeing a dinosaur score a hat trick then you do the red wings getting ilya sorokin .....
every one has a family member with some sort of issue .. you can not get offended when a stranger uses a cliche!

You make me laugh. You come on here with insults and childish remarks making you a little insecure keyboard warrior. Jeremy has well thought out and informative posts and in this case a post based on speculation and opinions. What's funny is you believe the goalie in question is named Roy or Hasek or any number of hall of fame netminders. He'd be dealt for the right return... as would any player. Grow up, and better yet, man up and send an apology to Jeremy for lashing out without even reading the post in its entirety. Must be quite the burden to still be so angry over your teams departure from the playoffs.
