Make an offer to Bernier. Trade Jarry. Keep Desmith and find a couple Defensive man that can clear the front of the net. I believe the pens didn't get beat by scoring right?

Bishop was a solid elite goalie, but he always had problems staying healthy. Seems to get injured at the worst times. He's getting a little long in the tooth now and I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank. It's kinda like taking Andersen - similar places in their respective careers right now (coming off injuries and on the wrong side of the aging curve).

It should be noted that Bishop has a M-NTC which is only a 10 team no trade list. The NMC only applies to waivers and expansion.

Massive risk going in on Bishop. Maybe worth a shot if Dallas retains a bunch and it costs you a late pick.

A torn meniscus isn't a nothing injury, especially for an aging, injury prone goalie. I like him and all but he is definitely a backup who you are going to have to ease into things and hope he stats healthy as a backup.

I think they move Khudobin if Seattle doesn’t take him.

I like the idea of Bishop in a nuthsell but at that cap hit, his injury history and not having played for a year I'm a little weary of it....

It's certainly a gamble and who knows what DAL can realistically get for him in trade.

Safe moves will just get you another Jarry.

Its more about what Dallas will have to pay to get rid of him. I expect if Khudobin is taken in expansion they will hang onto him, but if he is not (I could see Seattle working a contract with Oleksiak as their pick) I think they will pay to get rid of Bishop or at least do a bad for bad contract swap.

Is there any chance at salary retention by Dallas here? If so, I'd go from luke warm to hot for this, especially if they retained 1/2. Bishop at 2.45 cap hit sound great haha

That would be a great cap hit. I honestly have no idea what DAL is aiming to do or what they'd want to retain salary.

I think it comes down to 2 main things:

1. How high of hopes do they have for Oettinger

2. Do they have to pay Seattle to take Khudobin

Khudobin is a great goalie though, one that back stopped them to the finals less than a year ago, is only a 3.33 mill cap hit and is signed for 2 more seasons. I cant see them wanting to go with a Bishop, who's 1.6 mill more, and Oettinger duo over a Khu-Oet one.

Khudobin had a rough season and has been overlooked his entire career. Oettinger is also waiver exempt so they really don’t have to rush a goalie decision. But with only Heiskanen to resign in terms of major pieces, clearing that extra 5m from Bishop gives them a chance to make a play for a Krejci or Hamilton which makes more sense to me.

I also wouldn't write off Khudobin as a Pens 1B target depending on how things shake out.

One heck of a terrible draft pick. He would get injured taping his stick.

In the 2010 draft he was taken one round ahead of Zucker, 2 rounds ahead of Rust, 3 rounds ahead of Kuhnackl, all Pens who were way better players.

Mark Stone went at the end of the 6th round that draft (WOW), Klingberg & Gallagher went in the 5th. Just goes to show that draft picks do count, even if they are very late ones.

And I know it is all in retrospect but in 2011 we drafted Joe Morrow and Scott Harrington ahead of Nikita Kucherov. Of course it still burns. That's why you always draft the most talented player on the board, not prospects you think you can flip for rentals in a year.

Yeah but I mean Letang, Rust and Guentzel were all 3rd rounders a lot of other teams overlooked haha, so it has gone both ways.

I agree, think Khudobin would be a better target for the Pens than Bishop.
