I would be fine with that. Im not sure who that would be, nor what team would view Jake in the same light.

That is the rub. Jake for Wheeler. Both teams need a change tough I doubt jets would do it. Flyers can add to the deal.

Would Ottawa be a possibility? Their owner is cheap so unlikely. Flames? Canucks?

Probably better to just hold onto Jake, at least for this year. Any deal we either have to take cap back or attach picks/prospects. Not interested in either of those options. Jake will get his points this year and another year off is easier to move.

"On June 14, 2019, the Flyers swapped veteran defenseman Radko Gudas with the Washington Capitals in a one-on-one exchange for veteran defenseman Matt Niskanen."

Looking back on this, was this a good trade or not? Sure Niskanen was great for one year, and meaningless year... Gudas was not as gifted offensively as Niskanen, but hard hitting and fairly responsible stay at home defenseman. Salaries Niskanen $5.7M versus Gudas $2.5M. If Niskanen would have stayed around a bit longer I don't think this is a question. I'm leaning toward a bad trade now, not at the time.

Ivan Provorov in my books gets a B+ minimum for his season. If we play a full 82 game season, his 26 points in 56 games definitely translate to his normal average somewhere between 36 to 40 points. He was a plus 4 on a poor defense and without a reliable partner and still saw the most ice time exert night on the team. There is no downplaying this.

It isn't about Jakes points. Who cares his points are meaningless when your team stinks. Just flat out time to turn the page.

Looking at the ages, Jake is 31, Wheeler 34... If we were close to being a contender for cup or even playoffs, it's a maybe. We're not, so pass. I'd rather trade Jake for a younger player or for picks.

After watching the Islanders/Bolts game yesterday, I’m even more of the mind of preferring Barzel over Couturier any day of the week. This is Barzel’s second final four in a row, at a very young age and he’s leading the charge. That’s young Giroux like stuff right there.

Points matter when our team offensively struggled tremendously last year. Jake was not one of those guys (none of the Vets were). Who is making up those points? Especially if we lose JVR to Seattle. That’s two big point contributors gone.

As I have about 42 times since this debacle of a season ended, this team needs a MAJOR attitude adjustment!! Too many coasters that just don't play the game the right way and it's rubbing off on the younger players. Jake needs to go ASAP!!! Tired of people talking about the pretty numbers! This team needs an enema and he needs to be the first one flushed out along with Ghost!!

Revisionist history is really a waste of time in my opinion. This was an excellent trade for the Flyers no matter how you spin it. Fletcher could not have perceived that Niskanen would retire early. It's the same as labeling a trade a bad trade after the fact because a player suffered a career ending injury.

I don’t think Jake’s attitude is an issue either. In his first season under AV he really adjusted his 200 ft game and was more defensively responsible. Our whole team sucked defensively this past year, not just Jake. When Jake is on his game he is one of our best players easily. He is still an elite play maker in my opinion as well.

To each his own. I'm done with him and I want him outta here along with several others. Jake has lots of talent, but it goes to waste due to his tendency to be lazy at times and the low hockey IQ that he possesses. Just my opinion, but I hope his is gone come October.

I get he can be a frustrating guy at times and have some brain farts. I’ll have to do some digging to find this article or perhaps it was a Twitter thread with some analytics . But shortly after the season I read that our team as a whole had so many defensive break downs which had a ripple effect on other players having to play out of position to cover for whoever missed their assignment. Yes, our vets were these guys at times (every NHL player makes mistakes) but one major line that Couts said a few times in his exit interviews was losing proven guys who “knew their role” and that some players maybe weren’t ready to take on those roles. It makes you wonder if some of the older guys (G, Jake, Couts, JVR) were doing this throughout the season to cover the ample young guys who struggled this year.

I disagree with you on this one. If the Flyers want to change their culture, which they desperately need to do, they must move on from Jake immediately. Its not about of the points, its all the negative baggage that comes with them, i.e. longer shifts, costly turnovers, lost puck battles, passing when he should shoot and lazy backchecks. He is part of the current core that needs to move out IMO if a new culture is to be established.

Not worried in the least about replacing his points. Which have been declining for 4 years now. Goal is to be a better team. It will be a cumulative effort to replace his points. Allison and Linblom can pick up some of it as well as the player they get to replace him.

You can remove guys with more points with guys who score less and be a better team. Or do you not think that isn't possible?

Looking at raw totals is a bad way to evaluate anything, night in and night out he was sloppy with the puck and made turnovers we are not prone to seeing with him. He did not have a good season, asked to do a lot but he was part of the problem all year.

Like who? Surely you have a something in mind no? Amazes me so many want to bring back essentially the same team.

[Friedman] A sign the off-season is really revving up as the final four chase the Stanley Cup: Carolina has given Dougie Hamilton permission to talk to other NHL teams. Opens potential for a sign-and-trade.

Jake declined in 19-20 because he was far more defensively responsible (same with JVR) , I don’t like using +\- really but he had his best +/- in his career (+14). He obviously declined this year with the shortened season but his pace in a normal season would have been an increase in points and closer to his best. Love Oskar and Allison but they haven’t proven themselves enough at all to the level Jake has. Jake has been one of the most productive RWs in the NHL over the last several years

Jake rules. Keep him, hopefully in 3 years they extend him as well. They should do everything in there power to keep the holy trinity together.

You asked how do they replace his points did you not? If you don't think those 2 along with whoever else they add to replace Jake can make up the diff then the Flyers are phucked regardless then. Again it is about being a better team. Why cant you see Jake has run his course here?

There's no need for sarcasm just because you disagree with me man

It's just an opinion. I said nothing about extending nor keeping him his whole career. In fact, I said it's better to keep him for THIS year and then maybe move on. IMO we are worse this season without Jake. Don't need to get fussy about it. I just think you can't pencil in Allison (long injury history and small sample size) or Oskar (cancer) just yet. Neither of them have sniffed an 85 point season or even close to 60.

Not getting fussy in any way, I am more or less laughing.

Why is it better to keep him this year? Time to cut the cord. That being said I don't see many changes being made at all unless the GM starts trading young players and prospects to go for it now.

Totally agree. I have no doubt he will get his points, but for me, I want the team to have a different look. Jake has been scouted even with different line mates on this team. Division teams know what to expect. That's why I say, if we can get back similar value offensively, it's about evolution. Trying something different to see if a different chemistry can be accomplished. Many of the players on this team have been here a long time, just need to freshen things up. I don't think JVR has the same issue, as a net front presence. He can tip shots from just about anyone.
