Hurricane Helm did everything but score. His speed scared teams when he first came up. Great penalty killer. But he couldn't score to save his life despite getting so many scoring chances because of his speed. Like Mikheyev he was all hustle and no reward.

The Leafs' time is 'now', Rangers should be there in 1-3 years and the Wings in probably 3-5??

A big issue with our scoring has to do with the insanely terrible power play this team seems committed to running.

Rielly doesn't have a big shot and is much more effective on a rush and less on set plays. Hamilton has a great shot and is a far better PP QB.

Also, Justin Holl is not a legit Top 4 guy and I think we should stop pretending that he is. Brodie can play on the 2nd pair if Hamilton is signed.

If you really think that our offence and secondary scoring is a big problem than moving out a massive contract like Marner's is a natural way to go about fixing that. Sure, you don't replace his 90+ points a season with one player but his salary would go a long way to acquiring 2 legit Top 6 forwards that provide balance across 2 lines.

If Marner is not going anywhere than you run with Robertson in your Top 6 and hope he can keep up. You also run with Sandin and Liljegren as cheap D-men (which is probably happening regardless).

I'd also recommend (as I mentioned above somewhere) moving Marner off of PP1 and replacing him with Nylander, who has an elite shot (and scores in front of the net!).

Apart from the decision about whether Marner goes or not, they need to change the way they play. As you’ve pointed out, playoffs are different and the style that worked in the regular season didn’t work. They need to be stronger on the forecheck and need offensive versions of Foligno and Simmonds more than they need to upgrade Rielly. Rielly was one of their best players against Montreal. Hamilton is going to cost more than they can spend and so this is all going to be sad Pietroangelo time all over again. Do you remember those days? I do.

He’s good in his role. But man, can he finish at least 1/10th of his breakaways?
- Steven_Seagull

I know, but he did sever his tendon recently

It will improve with time, hopefully

Fixing the power play goes a long way to addressing their inability to score.

Rielly had 3 pts in 7 games and, while he wasn't the defensive liability I expected, wasn't exactly setting the world on fire with his play.

Hamilton will cost an additional 3-3.5M above Rielly's current pay. Rielly will demand a pay raise by at least 2-3M next season so you're simply deferring the inevitable if you stick with him and he's simply not as good as Dougie. Trade him for picks, prospects, or a cheap Top 6 type if you can.

Hyman walks. Robertson slots in your Top 6. Holl is likely selected in the expansion draft and you try to hold onto Kerfoot if possible.

It's not even close to impossible. Would you like me to draft it up for you in capfriendly?

I'm optimistic with Yzerman so I'll say 3 would be a home run. 4 is realistic. 5 is most likely. It really all depends how we do in the draft. Any team can say that but with Yzerman it's especially true. HIS team is about to win another Stanley Cup. He can't take credit for Stamkos and Hedman but he built Tampa.

Hopefully he can find a Kucherov in the second round, a Point in the 3rd round and draft a Vasilevskiy. Palat in the 7th round. He stole Cirelli too. Undrafted Free agent Gourde. Trade for Sergachev and RMD. You get my point. He's almost done cleaning up Kenny Holland's mess. So he'll be adding quite a bit over the next 2 years. 👍

Rather go for more of a defensive dman…

Pesce type

Savard would be 1/2 the price 🤷
and 2/3 as good 🧐

Savard hasn't impressed me too much in Tampa so far.

I doubt Carolina would let Pesce go. He's a horse signed to a great deal.

Not sure if I'd want to sign David Savard as he'll be looking for a long ass deal.

Nothing to draw up, we just have different views of the priority needs. I still think it’s academic as my guess is that somebody with actual money to spend goes after him.

I don't think Campbell could handle a starter role.
His body would break down to many time me thinks.

Plus he’s batpoop crazy, probably be institutionalized before Christmas next year.

Look at Fluery’s game by game stats.

Again you are being way too technical. Campbell was fantastic.

As much as Detroit likes bragging about drafting Datsyuk and Zetterberg in the later rounds... there's no way they envisioned either of them becoming elite franchise players. Without intending to sound like Tanner, the Red Wings were very lucky drafting them.
