There are actually numerous Red Wings connections when you really dig deeper. Everyone talks about Montreal with Tatar, Merrill, Oulette. There is also Mrazek in Carolina. Tomas Nosek in Vegas. Very few people know who Dan Renouf is, but he latched onto Colorado's taxi squad. Timashov is with NYI.

Now the one guy who I suspect very few people would affiliate (if you are honest) with the Red Wings is Barclay Goodrow. We invited him to camp in 2013. He was 20, 6'2, 215, just scored 38 goals in the prior OHL season...but these were the years of Dan Cleary, Drew Miller, Cory Emmerton, Mikael Samuelsson, and Tomas Jurco. We wouldn't even offer him an AHL contract. He got the last laugh when he played a key role in winning the Cup last year...

For sure there are several. I’ll try and find the link, I polled everyone to see who they’d be excited about seeing lift the cup. There were definitely years where it felt like players got a raw deal if they weren’t on the “chosen” list. Just some head shakers in there. Tats is still (for whatever reason) my favorite former wing. He and Nyquiet were highlights when things really started to go downhill. I liked Merrill this year wouldn’t mind seeing him on another short term deal

I still remember that winning goal he scored against LVK in the "Kill Lil Joe" game. I did not expect the move he made to pot that one! Very skillful!

Right now i would like to see Price lift the Cup. The Islanders and Montreal are making things exciting. NY vs. Montreal would be good for hockey right now, that’s only my thoughts guys.

Montreal would have blown up my brackets. I could not get my brackets in as NHL.com was overwhelmed at the last hour you could get them done.....I gotta do things in a more timely manner.

Yeah I read the poll. Pretty sure nobody mentioned Goodrow. Nor taxi squad guys like Renouf. Was just the obvious guys like Tatar, Mrazek, etc...

Hey Jeremy as usual another excellent write up. Constantly checking the site for new posts from you. Just curious if your doing a write up on the Jets and the possibilities there now that they have been eliminated. Keep up the great work, and hope your health is well and stays that way for you. Cheers

Jamie how does the Habs win effect our draft position with the Washington pick! If Tampa and the Islanders also win their series does the Caps pick move up a couple more spots?

It doesn’t. Tampa winning is the only series that would move the pick up a spot.

Carolina cant be taken seriously as a contending team until they get a actual #1 goalie in there.

Thanks for that! I’ll do a trade scenario write up tonight for sure. Thank you so much for dropping that in. I really have enjoyed those. It is so painful watching the exit media spots. Watching these pros try to hold it together just feels like a gut punch sometimes

I do think these young guys cutting their teeth against TB is going to help them a lot. Toronto and EDM need to be facing teams like that to get a grasp on what they need to do. I love Mrazek. If they do swing for someone else he’d still be a good tandem partner.

Thanks Feds. I’ve had a nasty morning and you saved me some more headaches. Storms make the concussion stuff flare up and it is a lot of rain over here

They need more scoring too.

Kochetkov is a stud prospect they have. Maybe they make a play at a guy like Rask as a stopgap.

Svech had a rough year. His temper is getting him in trouble too. I enjoyed watching Necas a bit.

Carolina is one of those teams I feel like some nerd with way too much time on his or her hands needs to, like, laboriously review game tape of every single shot attempt of every game and compare against the xG models to see what's going on.

They are one of the few teams that consistently score far fewer actual goals than pretty much all the public expected goal models suggest they "should" be scoring. It's been going on for years so pure bad luck doesn't seem like a very good explanation at this point. Are they just bad shooters? Is it a system thing that the current xG models are poorly designed to handle? Mix of both?

Think it’s a lack of shooting/scoring talent.

5v5 wise:

High Danger shooting percentage they ranked 25th this season and Detroit was 24th.

High Danger attempts they ranked 2nd and Detroit was 30th.

A lot of shots, at the goalie, but not enough going by him.
