Just because Evan's was laying on the Ice and had to be stretchered off dosen't make the game ugly, I'm still trying to figure out what Scheifele did wrong.

Are you high?
The game is not ugly, the hit was. Predatory and unnecessary and it hurts the Jets chances go forward.

Unless you're just not allowed to finish your check anymore........that hit was not only 100% clean, it was textbook.

Wasn't charging. Wasn't late. Didn't lead with his elbow. Didn't target the head. I guess we're giving out penalties and suspensions now because the other guy left himself in a vulnerable position and got hurt?
Because that's poor.

It was Scheifele's choice to play the puck or the man.
He chose the man.
It was Evans' choice to take the shot or wait for support from his teammates.
He chose to take the shot.

Hard, clean hit with an unfortunate result.

Skating at top speed from a distance throwing your body into someone is in fact the text book definition of "charging".. seriously

Here you go for those of you that don't know what the rules are...
Charging is a penalty in ice hockey. Rule 42 of the NHL rulebook dictates that charging "shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner

It’s the first game of the series, you can’t be skating around with your head down like it’s a Sunday skate. He was 100% trying to kill him, but it was clean, slippery slope if he’s getting games for this. Why can’t you run through a guy in the playoffs?

I disagree.
Bang-Bang play and Sheifele did NOT accelerate (taking extra strides). As a matter of fact, he slowed up.
The hit was going to happen.

Guess we'll see what Player Safety has to say.

can't disagree with any of this. honestly i think Evans should be suspended for his role in this.

Scheifele was on tilt for most of the night, uncharacteristically so. I don’t think it was charging, but I do think it was a predatory cheap shot. I didn’t think the head was the principle point of contact, but I’ve seen some comments indicating it was ( maybe an angle that clearly shows this that I didn’t see). He was really hot in scrums and I’m not sure exactly what got him going. I think it’ll be 1 or 2 game suspension, likely putting the Jets in a 2-1 or 3-0 hole. Hopefully Stastny returns and DeMelo can play.

It was a clean hit. If you move that same hit to centerice no one would question it. I think because it happened after the puck crossed the line might be the issue. It doest happen often where a player scores and gets decked. It'll be interesting to see how its called.

You are allowed to hit a player so many seconds after they release the puck, but when the puck crosses the line the play is dead. I think this is where the issue might be.

It's still a charge no matter where it takes place. DISTANCE is the key to charging.

I’ll chime in,
Shiefele should absolutely be suspended, 100%. But the league and social media is a poop hole.

Just a few games ago Ryan Graves (Colorado) made an equally horrible hit to Vegas’s Janmark. Janmark had to be helped off the ice as he was knocked out, Graves didn’t have the speed Shiefele had going into the hit, but the hit was made far later after the play. Meathead Reeves took actions into his own hands and attacked Graves and put his knee over Graves neck, which rightfully got Reeves suspended. But In doing so, everyone then felt bad for Graves, turned their attention to Reeves and Graves received no suspension for his hit that started the whole thing.

How messed up is that??

The sad, very sad reality is these plays happen a lot more than you think if you are only watching the Jets and if the player on the receiving end doesn’t get hurt, they more often than not do not get any attention. A dirty hit is a dirty hit and until they are all called equally no matter the outcome or value and talent of guilty player, nothing will change
