Basically the points I touched on while listening and posting here yesterday haha...I really do appreciate the non-throwing of Geno and Letang under the bus this summer.

I'd like to think they get another goalie...but DeSmith is also signed next season and I think is a perfectly fine backup at 1.25 mill cap hit. So....

Personally I think Jarry is gone at the draft. Someone will take him for something. I largely agree with everything RW wrote and I'm curious what goaltending options he will put out.

Side note, Scheifele is getting a phone hearing and what I didn't know, is that phone hearings have a max of five games which I think is an odd rule.

Didn't stay up to watch the COL-LV series last night. But Flower had .880 SAV % on25 shots. Did anyone watch? What happened? Defense played badly or did Flower flounder?

The phone vs in-person is probably a bit different in a COVID year.

I don't know that I would totally throw Jarry away, maybe bring in another vet goalie like Halak. I mean the Avs got toasted last year in the playoffs by Grubauer and Francouz and Grub bounced back. But they did bring Dubynk in, which I want to go a similar route if they keep Jarry. If they move Jarry I'm not gonna lose any sleep haha.

The OT goal was a pp goal in which it hit off Flowers shoulder and still went in. Rant just sent a heavy wrist shot. The first goal by Saad was weird because Pietro just slightly lifted Saad's stick and it was a partial whiff. Didn't see Josts goal but I know that was a PP as well.

Oh I took part in that discussion. I just threw my hands up with dude trying to find some way to frame that hit in a normal light.

The league has already failed by only allowing five games max. I said in the previous thread they should give him zero or the whole series. If he's back for any games it's going to be a poop show.

IMO anyone who thinks there's anything "normal" about that hit is smoking some serious poop.

Scheifele:
1) Had TONS of time to make a decision
2) Pulled up and redirected, so it was clearly targeted
3) Had many options to stop that puck without hitting him.
4) Could have hit him straight on with a good clean hit without leading with his shoulder/elbow. He had time to make this decision.

I agree with this. I do think they can bring Jarry back, but if you do, you have to bring in someone who is not just a good back-up but someone who can compete for the starting job. I agree with RW that Jarry is wildly inconsistent, not bad, but I said that a year ago.

Through no fault of DeSmiths, you can't come back with the same goal-tending. Either replace Jarry with a stud starter and bring back DeSmith, or bring in some one to compete with Jarry and trade DeSmith or just try and send him through waivers as your #3. Either works for me.

Nice that he didn't leave Malkin and Letang hanging, but I can't imagine Hextall sees a future for this core. They're winding down, many of the key supports are about to get bad contracts, this next year is probably it.

I'm hoping they can find one legit tip 6 talent with size. Let the big prospects compete for a 3rd line spot for the first half of the season. And try to find a 4-5 physical defenseman. That's what I'd do to add a little size, keep the rest of the team largely as is.

PP goal on an incredibly weak slashing call because an Avs player dropped his stick

Slashing on broken sticks I'm fine with. These kinds are crap. Hold onto your stick Mary

You want big and tough and cheap and good (maybe- given a fair shake and evaluation) then give Radim Zohorna a legit look next year.

I'll eat my crow Tojo, I believed in Jarry fully for this past season. He definitely is not consistent enough. The Desmith injury ended up killing us.

I too was happy with Jarry. I really thought his puck playing ability was an attribute the Pens D needed. I still do think they need it but it can't be careless.

Or O'Connor, or Poulin, or Legare. I'd say those are their 4 top forward prospects and all have size and will be in WBS next year. Looms like hood competition for a 3rd line spot to me.

I think there is a difference between having a bad series and completely melting down like Jarry did. He didn't play bad and they lost, he completely gave away 3 games.

I think both team and player need to move on at this point, though I am happy that no-one is throwing him under the bus. I think he can still be a fine goaltender, but I don't trust him as a starter and as a backup I'll take Desmith at $1.25M over Jarry at $3.5.

Dream world scenario is Boston doesn't sign Rask and we move on from Jarry and sign Rask and keep Desmith.

Yes Jarry was bad in the playoffs, but there is nothing to suggest that DeSmith would have been great either. He is an average goaltender that POSSIBLY could have made a few more saves, but the problem is the turnovers (both by Jarry and the defense). Those are the mistakes that sunk this TEAM, it's not just one player. Sid, Jake & Rust went cold, Petterssen got into a penalty taking problem, Ceci & Matheson turned the puck over in the defensive zone. Jarry didn't make saves he should have. Everyone is to blame on this, not just the goalie because you hate goalies.

His save percentage over the 6 playoff games was .888 he's taking the blame because the shots he should have saved went right in. Especially Game 1. Jerry gave them that and that set the tone for the series.
