Thanks Carol.

@Nucker
I thought the results were surprising until I kept watching more Euro games. I wasn't surprised at all and the more I found out about how the leagues worked it made a bit more sense.

I just wonder how much the AHL gets screwed with that methodology. The Euros who struggle in the NHL or are given 4th line roles that they dislike usually go back to Europe either through an out clause or just bolting after a season.

North American AHL players who struggle to stick in the NHL usually just stick around and get called up to play spot duty during injuries or tank seasons on crap teams.

I think that brings down the PPG for the AHL. Plus some top prospects in North America jump straight into NHL lineups after the CHL/NCAA or only spend a very short time in the AHL.

Meanwhile a lot of top Euro prospects graduate from their country’s men’s league which also skews things.

It’s an interesting article nonetheless, I haven’t read it in detail so I’m wondering if he acknowledges or addresses the things mentioned above in his research.

Most of the top euro leagues are just a bit better. I think that's why JB and company seem to want to leave a lot of their prospects over for as long as needed instead of bringing them over. They are probably learning in better leagues. The players like Plasek that are sort of stuck, should come over and give the AHL a shot. Guys like Karlsson and Costmar though are going to be playing in the 2nd/3rd best league in the world which playing 4th line is probably similar to playing against bottom 6 talent in the AHL. Not a problem leaving them over there to ripen a bit.

Thanks Carol. Podz is growing into the tank with skill that will benefit EP long term.

If no C is acquired Podz could allow JTM to stay at C making for a 3 deep balanced top 9.

Hog might be "small in terms of height" but he's a thicc dude and is hard to knock off the puck. EP calling him a tiny powerforward was funny but true lol

I would be interested to see an experiment like that for an extended period.

Pettersson
Horvat
Miller

With one of these guys on each line:
Boeser
Hoglander
Pearson/Podkolzin

And then sprinkle in a couple of other wingers on each line to complement the duos.

Roll 3 lines and play the 4th line in a limited role where they can go all out snd cause chaos with conserved energy each shift due to less ice time.

If Benning acquires another good winger, that would really make the top 9 look dangerous since Pearson and Podkolzin are both better suited as 3rd wheel types unless Podkzolin proves to be as effective Hoglander.

I'd put money on one of the Ducks top prospects. Zegras and Drysdale both look really promising.

Can look at analytics to find players that are effective PKer's but also have a high scoring per 60 to maximize two qualities needed for the 4th line players.

They don't have to meet any of the skills of a hockey player as long as they can be near the top of both those categories.

Going to have to split it with JB's pick from this season.

Slim to none. He's not a scoring machine but his game is what the Canucks need to compete.

I can hope until it’s official. Benning said he wanted to sign Toffoli and then never even made an offer, so anything can happen.

Just hearing that the fans at the Leafs game tonight are all going to be front line workers, so no $8000 tickets.

That’s a nice gesture by the team and Province.
