I think the only way Jones won’t wind up with philly next year is if he won’t sign an extension there. The have a decently high 1st this year, all their picks in the next few drafts and a couple of high profile prospects.

As far as the jackets situation goes I thought before unless they went at eichel (which seems less logical without Jones) they should rebuild anyways. Werenski, laine, roslovic, texier and bjorkstrand are still at ages where they can rebuild and still have those guys at the tail end of their prime when they come out of it. Otherwise the jackets could waste a large part of those guys prime in mediocrity.

They already have 3 1sts this year. See what they can get on a return from Jones, domi, Jenner and possibly atkinson and they can turn this thing around quickly, especially when you consider the talent at the top of the next two drafts

As far as RNH goes if the oilers can’t get him down to 5 aav I’d let him walk. He may be the top center available but he would be playing wing in Edmonton and there’s better wingers available through both UFA and trade. Only edge he has over them is the versatility for the oilers can play RNH at 3C or top six wing if whoever they pick up doesn’t work out

Edmonton's first priority is not defense. It's adding a couple of top 6 wingers so that McDavid and Draisitl can split up and provide some true depth. RNH had his shot as a winger and was pretty awful. Look at his 5-on-5 stats. Then look at his linemates. He was brutal. It's clear that many in the media haven't watched many Oiler games. Holland probably can't wait to walk away and spend that money on an actual legit top 6 forward. Yzerman is too smart to target RNH. Mostly because he watches the games instead of boxscores...

RNH's .76 pts per game are because he is on the ice with the top 2 centers in the league a meaningful percentage of the time. What is his worth without those 2??? He will test FA and get over $7M AAV. I don't think it will be with the Wings, and let's hope not, especially at that price! But, I don't think he would be a bad acquisition at a lower price....however he has the right to cash in this year, and he should.

To Philly Seth Jones, To CBJ Travis Konecny Can play center (although didnt for Philly) and locked up for several years - although risky for Philly as no guarantee he'll resign here.

Veleno should stay far far away from Glendening. Veleno needs to learn how to score at the NHL level.

The only way RNH gets $7M+ is if there are GM's with your analytical prowess...

According to capfriendly, Jones has a modified NTC where he can name 10 teams he doesn't want to be traded too.

I would think a team acquiring him this season would want assurances that he extends with them before trading a number of players/prospects/picks to CBJ for him. On paper the RNH for Jones trade looks good for both teams. Even if the Oilers meet Jones' contract demands, he could still nix it by having EDM on his no trade list.

As a Hawks fan I have been clamoring for the Hawks to fill their void at #1D with Jones since I believe non of their young D prospects fit the bill and Keith is a shell of his old self. Hopefully Chicago will not be on his no trade list.

Hi Jeremy, the wings should make the case to get Jones for 8$ mill per. Then you got your big defenseman, and then look for a center in the draft.

CBJ need to make a trade move with Jones this summer, why wait? CBJ needs to build a team of players that want to be in Columbus.

Jones is so overrated. He’s worth $5m at best besides Seider is gonna be better.

Problems with this (aside from paying Jones 8 mil per) is the Wings already have Hronek, Seider, Stetcher and Lindstrom for the right side defense and that's not counting other prospects. Wings need a top defenseman but on the left side.

Jones for RNH helping both teams? A #1 d-man for a soft, perimeter 2nd liner. Looks like we have another who doesn't watch the Oilers. Also, Jones will get paid like a Norris winner. Probably starts with an 8 or 9.

Hey guys, it’s your 30th favorite HB blogger! I had a slip/fall down the stairs yesterday and haven’t been able to respond like I’d like to. Just a couple quick hits.

First, thanks again to everyone for commenting. Seeing Kooleus again felt like a family reunion. (Even though my family doesn’t like me much right now)

On Glendening/Veleno - of course I want Veleno to score. He needs center ice skills too. Glenny can help him work on draws, PK and weight room stuff. If Vrana stays in Detroit over the summer (Zadina too) those three could work on target shots “on the rush”. Zadina needs some confidence back now that his 2 way game is way better. JV could take a job with his speed, just needs those other skills to kick in.

One of the better shot practice guys was Dino Ciccarelli. He would tape a hockey stick at the top corners of the net and shoot until he got a certain number of goals. Those little sharp shooter nets work good. Just work it. Some of the guys also used to use the “camera hole”. Goalies love shooting at those too.

As for Jones and RNH, I thought I was fairly clear that the price would put both out of reach. Just interesting to see how things soured and what it will do to the market. I wouldn’t pay for Jones just because of where we are. If Seider ends up being what we think and Jones is on the team making 8 million, Seider’s expectation could be problematic on his next contract. For RNH, I think he’d be an upgrade at center for this team, but I don’t think he’d want to play for another “rebuild”. If COL dumps Kadri and RNH will be flexible on $ that could be a decent fit. He’d be a third line guy.

I like Jones’s game. I know some of you think he’s overrated. There are many who share that thought. He and Hamilton are probably going to get paid well somewhere. (I’d love Dougie too, but again $ and timing). I’m just trying to keep up with the market and get your input and opinions. My hope is to give you 5 days a week of something to read and interact with during the summer. You’ve all pushed me to be better and I want to respect that with content.

Everyone have a save Memorial Day. We have the draft drawing this week. If somehow Detroit won it (not likely) a very good defenseman is the prize. Possibly Seider’s future linemate.

Jones is very good, but he is not a dominate 1D, Sieder projects to be that 1D that dominates. Wings need a LD anyway.

I can’t recall that last time there’s been a player as polarizing as Jones. I will say this is that if it was Kevyn Adam’s dealing him the return would be that of the 2nd pairing D-man the analytics point him to be but considering Jarmo just got 1 round picks for foligno and savard I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a pretty big haul.

What it will actually be if I had to guess will be pretty similar to what the sens got for karlsson which was a pretty underwhelming return when the 1st was though to be a mid to late pick. Also if the jackets can do sign and trade that would go a long way for them

Yes, that has been a thing in the Nucks news for the last several days. They need the cap space and Nate has not worked out as well as they hoped. I think he can be had for Cholo and a minor pick, because he is also a cap dump.
