I'm sorry, this mentality has always baffled me with such a team as the Flyers this past season. Why did he(Hayes)/or the team not shut it down to prepare for the surgery and allow for a proper rehab? He was less than 100% and you have players in the system you want to work into the system. This is just so selfish and not good management!

I feel better about his season after learning of the surgery as well as him not holding back when discussing himself and his year. No excuses made. Actions speak louder than words though. Hopefully he walks the talk come next season

I think the Flyers only need him to be close to the player he was last year, if he can do that, it will solve some issues. Like the rest of the team, he needs the right mix on his wings

For all of the Kevin Hayes haters who cry that he isn't worth it... Those are good numbers that Bill just posted about him

Even up until March he was almost a PPG player.

If he returns to last seasons Kevin Hayes then he is still worth every penny of that 50 mil they are paying him. I can't guarantee that he will still be worth it 5 years from now but that's the price you pay for a guy in free agency

100% agree. I know fans love to put guys like G and Jake under the microscope, but they really were fine this year (same with Couts). Jake was less of a 200 ft player vs last year but his points were fine. The main offense and scoring issues were the lack of support from guys like Hayes (mainly), Laughton (streaky), and TK (streaky) IMO. And id also say we had less contribution from our 4th line vs last year. It didn’t help Oskar and Patrick didn’t bounce back like we hoped they would, but I do give them some slack.

Yeah I agree 110%
They should have shut him down the minute they were eliminated from the playoffs. Ply the kids. Let them get experience and let hayes have surgery and recover.
Absolutely bone headed move by this organization to keep him in the line up

Most of the players were doing fine points wise up until then, we were scoring at a crazy clip before covid. If you actually watched the games you could see that we were playing poorly but the goals were making up for it. Once it dried up, you have March...

There must be a reason they didn't do it. I would like to know about the discussions that took place around it, who was involved, the pros and cons of both sides of the issue, and how the final decision came about.

Will Kevin hayes get scratched (unfortunately, he can not be waived) for daring to go against the narrative that av laid out that Carter hart needs to improve his work ethic?

Figured this re Hayes injured. He looked like he was skating in quicksand the last 2/3’s of the season.

Also, just saw that Gordon and Huffman won’t be back in LHV as per NHL.com

Seems it was mutual between Gordon and LV. Well I guess that depends on what you define as "mutual ".

Let Hayes rest for the summer and have surgery the day before the season starts.

Sign a free agent with the LTIR money.

Start Hayes skating about 9 weeks before the end of the season. Have him rested and ready for game 1 of the playoffs.

how much of a bounce back were you expecting? I actually had very low expectations for them and, in that regard, they didn't disappoint lol

And score 2 goals in the opener in the playoffs.

Oh wait.

With *that strategy we may not make playoffs.

(*Where by that, I mean any)

I guess I should specify I expected more from Patrick mainly. I didn’t expect him to come out the gates hot. But I expected more as the season went on, especially as he played with talented players or played on bottom lines which I thought he could maybe take advantage of some line matchups. I’m Not ready to write him off like some are though.

Core muscle surgery and minor surgery don't seem to go together do they?

Flyers decisively won that trade. Overwhelmingly one sided.

Kevin Hayes is what he is an inconsistent player who at times can look like an All Star and at other times look like he has no interest. That has been his history and the reason the Rangers let him go,. To his credit he was honest the minor core muscle injury had little if anything to do with his play. I am sure if it was any concern at all the Flyers would have shut him down .

Been saying this for a while, rangers didn’t want him for a reason. Exactly, he would have been shut down, he sucked. People have their scape goat for him now, oh well.
