It's looking more and more like next year might be the year when DeBrincat solidifies himself as the best offensive player on the team. He has bounced back strong and keeps getting better.

Imagine that! It wasn’t that long ago when fans were all ready to burn ADB at the stake.

One guy on here still is. Doesn't like his game. No good at defense.

He still stinks at face offs though, only 38.5% at the dot.

Give him credit where it's due. He's been coming around on old Dinky.

Faceoffs don't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Individual plays? Sure. They're the first puck battle of a shift. hundreds of them over the course of a season? Meh.

I saw that Galvas is listed at 5'11" and 165 lbs. He's 21 years old now. Hawks' 5th round pick in 2017. Does he have any real chance of playing in the show?

I believe all Hawk defensive draft picks have top 4 potential.

Talent alone YES.
How effective defensively on talent yes but size will always be a challenge. Same as Beaudin.

That said, noticed the king of playing angles in defending despite slow skating Larry Murphy played a long time. When he retired the league was definitely slower skating than today.. Please defer to Theo to support and provide details

I keep reading and hearing that - and I keep thinking - if you’re only at 35%-40% (which the Hawks are many games) you’re always chasing.

Lose it in the dzone and the other team “easily” (nothing is easy in the Show) sets up; lose it in the ozone, and you have to go get it and renter the zone.

Winning them is better than losing them.

Losing board battles after & bad passes after are key factors also.

Since a lot of the criticism is about JC's lack of experience, I heard Don Cherry should be available.

Well, that would guarantee a Zadarov farewell.

Since this is a perennial question on this board and in the media, here is what Powers published today on JC's defensive system. Sounds like he will bend the team to his will rather than adjust to the team makeup he has.

So, of the three key elements ostensibly needed to succeed in his D scheme, which are the Hawks most lacking in, in your opinions?

On a related note, I've been seeing more and more reports that the players have to work on their "fundamentals" before they'll be able to perform in his system and become a contender. Must be the team's latest rationale for the record. But, aren't the fundamentals what every hockey player is schooled in repeatedly at all lower levels leading up to the NHL? How do they get to the NHL without those skills? Or, is it adapting those skills to a higher level of competition?

So both dmen don't go to the corners, definitely not true with this group, both dmen go behind the net always, and we have dmen that go all the way out to the blue line??? Sure our blue line isn't very talented, i guess they have trouble being coached

And many faceoffs are 50/50 scrums, as Edzo (not the poster) points out often.

He sure has, he's playing a very impressive 200 foot game and now that he's on the pk, i really like the idea the opponent has to worry about him being on the ice

I know this post will be very controversial for the obvious reasons. But before writing it off out of hand as insane I ask that you give it some consideration.

Would you trade Dylan Strome for Tony Deangelo and something like a 3rd or 4th round pick. (Rangers have two thirds and three fourths this year).

Read these before judging.
https://nypost.com/2021/0...-bares-soul-in-interview/
https://thehockeywriters....021-trade-deadline-lucky/

1) Dylan is reunited with Ryan.
2) He probably has no future with the Hawks.
3) Deangelo is a 25yo puck moving RD that was the 19th overall pick.
4) He has had several issues mainly related to his conservative political issues and immaturity. Some are disputed or overblown, per the above links. (Remember the Hawks had a young player former 1st rounder that got into some trouble when he was younger, though not as serious. Cab driver incident. Young female incident. He turned out ok. Remember at the time many people on this board were saying dump him for whatever you could get. Of course the talent level of the two is night and day. He turned out ok.)
5) Deangelo can be bought out fairly cheap.

I would consider it as a way to move Dylan Strome and his contract. As a RD Deangelo could replace Z (whom you do not resign). You give him a shot, if it does not work out you buy him out. Of course you can buy out Strome fairly cheap too.

Full disclosure Deangelo probably will be bought out this summer.

This will not happen. Rangers owner James Dolan would insist on a full Dylan tryout and one of the tests would be a race between Dylan and 77 year old former NHL'er Glenn Sather who is Dolan's principal hockey advisor. Dylan would lose that race badly to Sather.

Furthermore, Dylan would be totally traumatized playing in the same division as Tom Wilson and probably retire.

DeAngelo will find a home somehwere, just not Chicago. We have about 50 defenceman in the system already not counting who Stan is going to draft this year.

Dach too. For a guy that should be a winger. When they were paired together they put pressure on the team on the PP and had chances to score shorthanded too. If this team can't or won't defend, might as well make the other team defend.
