It's one bad performance, so I'm not jumping off the SS Sorokin yet. That said, since Trotz's arrival we've never really had a clear-cut number one. It's always been more of a 1A v. 1B. Early on, with Sorokin learning/adjusting to the NHL game, Varly was naturally going to get the lions share of the games, but we've now moved to more of the 60/40 split that was originally anticipated. One game won't change that.

Obviously when the playoffs start, Varlamov will get the nod, as he should. That said I do think we're at a point where we can start riding Sorokin a bit more during his hot spells much like we would with Greiss v. Varlamov. I'm just glad we have both and hope they keep it that way for another year or even two.

The top line to me is still the same problem. Both Komarov and Zajac (at this point in his career) are underwhelming additions to that line. Palmieri remains my number one choice for tht line, but clearly Barry isn't sold on that. It also sounds as though Wahlstrom is under a tight leash and will get a very limited chance to prove he belongs back in the lineup for this season. The JGP line is a damn good one at this stage, so the question is what else can me find from the rest. We need to do it fast because there won't be much time for everyone to build familiarity before the playoffs kick in.

Very fortunate to have 2 guys between the pipes that are both good enough to be #1.

I agree with this. After all, I was one of the ones saying that he SHOULD HAVE played.

But Sorokin was indeed BAD last night, despite the team in front of him also being BAD.

- JohnScammo

Yep, everyone was bad. This was a complete team loss. It happens, let's hope they bounce back.

The thread might want to re think the #1 goalie status.
- nyisles7

I’m not sure it would have matter who was in net last night but yes Sorokin was not very good. I just feel Varly can sit a few games and will be fine when he plays and when Sorokin is hot keep rolling him until he has a game like last night.

Going forward maybe ride Varly and see if he can hold the fort down and or possibly steal a game for the Islanders.

I would ride Varly as well. He was a rock for us in the POs last year.

Of course. As was the other side's use of hyperbole.

I have no idea if this stat is even available, but I sometimes wonder what the Isles' record is with Uncle Leo in the lineup, and with him being a healthy scratch. I suspect it's not as bad as his detractors think.

Maybe you can start an uncle Leo fan club?

💯 however I just thought Barry would start riding 1 of them getting ready for the POs
For me Varly is the #1 and has the PO experience. Don’t see him platooning them in the POs but who knows.

- nyisles7

Thought the same - that he’d start riding Varly. Prob will happen now though.

I think it will be more of a 60/40 split. Sorokin needs to play to adjust his game.

What happened to this?

I will say it again and this will be my last post in here until Trotz is fired or he plays Wahlstrom Bellows or someone that will shoot the damn puck rather than pass it to a covered player. We do have two outstanding goalies in Varly and sorokin. When the Islanders make a mistake they are very capable of making a save. To put a fourth line fill in on the top line is idiotic and stupid. I know defense wins cups but your not winning a round with this inept offense and pp.

Goodbye.
