i figured that, however the nhl has yet to go full bore on those tracking devices and i don't think natural stat trick has that capacity so, to me, it would seem as if it's more of the latter--people watching, meaning subjectivity...

for instance, in yesterday's game, tokharski was credited with 5 hd saves on 5 hd shots...however, e-rod scored from right on his door step while rust was a tip in at the crease...i'm of the opinion that those are high danger shots

I would agree as well. It’s not perfect but it provides a very good baseline.

Analytics will never be able to measure a players heart or won’t be able to perfectly correlate a players innate skill level either. Obviously if we give Matthews 10 shots from the slot he’s going to score more goals than your average NHL player.

To me, analytics should be used for 60-70% of a players evaluation. The other 30-40% is eye test based on physical attributes (speed, Shot, IQ, system fit).

Cody Eakin is an example of a player who had terrible analytics before he got here and it continued. We continue to struggle with possession when he is on the ice, we get out chanced, out scored, you name it. Eye test will confirm the same, in fact it’s so obvious you don’t even have to look at the charts.

Carter Verhagee is an example of a player whom had very good underlyings in Tampa Bay. Now we have to look at zone starts, quality of competition, quality of teammate. Was Carter a player whom benefitted from easy matchups in a sheltered role ? Does the eye test support the math ? Does the player have good foot speed ? Does he have a shot that will be able to capitalize on chances created ?. Now that he is in Florida it’s evident that now he’s getting more even strength minutes, the power play minutes he was not getting in Tampa, along with the opportunity to play with the likes of Barkov and Huberdeau that the point totals are starting to reflect the underlyings.

A little idea, maybe call up Laaksonen and sit Miller and Irwin, move Risto to RW for a few games and see.
Laaksonen Samuelsson
Borgen Bryson
Joker Dahlin
I know very young, but could be very exciting too. Might not be the best time to do it with the teams we play. But would give these youngins some experience.

Gonna be interesting, gonna be a lot of learning and growing for these youngins. See how they look against the heavy weights. I know it doesn't matter but if they can keep progressing and play these teams hard could give a very good look for the future.

it's just a lot of information to be compiled, imo, and the human element is still a major factor in compiling those stats, which leads to more subjectivity and a higher potential for mistakes and/or miscalculations

--a quick edit, mccann's goal came from the corner below the goal-line, most definitely a low-danger chance, yet toki was credited with 23 ld shots against, 23 ld saves

all depends upon what they want to do...if they want to play an overall solid or better game yet still lose, keep irwin and eakin in the lineup

Taylor Hall is just what the doctor ordered for the Bruins. Krejci is reinvigorated. Smith is producing on that second line. Pushes everyone with “size” and lack of scoring ability into the bottom 6.

They look really good today
