I liked montour before he got buffaloed. Could be a good bounce back candidate just due to not being on the worst team in the lg. Gusev on the cheap as well. Good TDL for Florida.

Bennett was brought into the league too early. He never managed to find his game.

He has the physical skills to dominate yet he lacks the hockey IQ to play with top-end talent. Seems disinterested for long stretches. All in all an extremely frustrating player.
Hockeybuzz's own Adam French called him a bust before he ever played for the Flames. Turns out the Eerie Otters have never really developed a decent hockey player.

Fun to watch in the playoffs as his game is suited for when the refs put their whistles away.

Good luck! Might have to cheer for you guys in the playoffs now!

Matt, what kind of player is Heineman? Will he develop into a impact player?

Good luck with Bennett - he's not a "playoff performer" - he's a player who puts effort in when it suits him & a big cry baby. He's probably a locker room problem, telling by the way he glared at Gaudreau+Monahan after he scored on their line a few weeks ago - that said it all - and I bet Sam was extremely jealous Gaudreau/Monahan/Tkachuk/Lindholm all got big contracts and he didn't. Good riddance - think of Bennett as a permanent version of Dubois' last shift in Columbus, he doesn't try, nor put any effort into making it work on the undersirable lines. Florida's only hope is that Bennett smartens up and fixes his attitude, you guys are relying on him playing hard for his next contract.
I'm so happy he's gone, he could have put effort in to making the 3rd line work, but I could almost guarantee all of his coasting was because he wasn't getting his way, and I think THAT'S the reason the previous coach Ward for the Flames, sat him a few times. Even Lucic was coasting all the time, but lately he's been hustling more - problem is you never know what Bennett's going to give you, he's an overpaid cry baby, ungrateful, and a total waste of a roster spot

The kid made $2.5m a year and was sulking all the time; he refused to take ownership of the 3rd line; and screwed the post-Iginla rebuild - by not living up to a solid #2C just because he was sulking, coasting, and not trying on purpose!

I will say though, Gaudreau probably played like crap on purpose, whenever he was split up from Monahan, those two cashed in, Bennett got jealous and decided to play like crap too if he didn't like his line mates.

I remember in the draft combine there was a big buzz because Sam Bennett couldn't do a pull-up. So the day before the draft, TSN takes the top 4 prospects to a playground in whatever city the draft is being held and they film Bennett doing pull ups, then the camera zooms out and it turns out Ekblad is lifting him

I think I’ve heard him compared to being a Hornqvist type of player. Was on Sweden WJC team.

He had a shoulder injury. If 42-year-old desk job me can do 10 pullups, 18-year-old Sam Bennett can do a pullup.

Oh dear, he glared at them? I think Bennett may not have had the hockey IQ we hoped for, but I don't question the work he put in in the past few years. Provides playoff scoring last summer as a C, yet gets plunked to the 4th line or used as a RW on Lucic's line.

If you are going to sit him for a bad game, why did they not sit Lucic for his multiple bad games. I can recall 2-3 games where Lucic cost us games. Bennett not so much.

The reason you don't sit Lucic is to maintain good ties in the hopes of him retiring early. But at this point in the game, so far as where the Flames are at in their window, that matters less. But at least Lucic isn't coasting anymore, and he's forechecking properly, skating hard regardless whether he could get the puck, taking away time and space. Lucic got the message - I like him, but he still makes ugly turnovers.

You said it yourself, look what you wrote, he provided playoff scoring - but why didn't he do so during the regular season? Because he wasn't promoted, despite playing with the same guys he was with during the playoffs, relatively frequently. That echoes what his agent was ranting on about.

Lack of effort is 110% intentional by Bennett and I won't hear any other argument. Maybe he has talent, but we were never going to find out in Calgary because he appears disgruntled

Just listened to Zito talk about trades. I am so sick and tired of this organization talk about not doing anything that might mess up their future plans. Give me a f_ _ _ ing
break. Teams who talk about the future suck in the present. This nightmare never ends

“Future plans” include moving Stralman and (somehow) Yandle, get through expansion draft...then start adding missing pieces. I expect them to be more in “go for it” mode starting after expansion draft. I think Zito might’ve done more if Ekblad wasn’t out for the season.

Not to mention few teams go from first playoff berth all the way to the Stanley Cup. VGK was a special exception but most teams have "playoff growing pains" before finally breaking through (if they ever do). It will be interesting to see how far this year's group can go, and then make tweaks for next season.
