3-way deal with Detroit. Terms :
In return, the Blue Jackets are getting Tampa Bay's first-round pick (likely a lower first, if the Lightning make another run) in 2021, and a third-round pick in 2022. This is a three-way deal involving the Detroit Red Wings, who sent defenseman Brian Lashoff to Columbus.
Columbus and Detroit are splitting the remainder of Savard's salary.
The Detroit #RedWings today acquired defenseman David Savard from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Brian Lashoff and subsequently traded Savard to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Tampa had to pay more and swing a third team for cap savings so they gave up more. Florida took on all of Montours salary so less to acquire.
I like the move. JBB just told the room we are going for it again. He addressed the obvious weak spot of his lineup. This will be the last hurrah with the Lightning as we know it. Changes are coming they will still be competitive with their core but this is their best chance going forward to win it again. |

How did Columbus pull this off. Their 3/4D, who has 6 points and a -19 with the team lead in pims fetches picks in rd 1,3,4? Make sense of this please....

Retention of salary for the third round pick. The 1st round pick for a RD that the Lightning specifically targeted. And the fourth was for the other team to retain another 25% of salary or the trade could not happen. JBB wanted Savard thinking he is what they needed so he got him. |
