Screw it.. Leafs should go after CBJ..

Laine, Foligno, Savard and Korpisalo for Rielly, Kerfoot, Hutchinson, Barabanov, Niemela and a 1st rd pick

time to shake things up, while the team is first in the entire league and playing the best hockey in 15 years

I’m afraid to ask but, was that a good goal 5 hole last night or was it terrible tending?

- Garnie

It was a bit of both. How does a guy - not on a breakaway and not in a shootout - have enough time at the side of the net to make THREE fakes.

Campbell's mistake was not recognizing the situation and poke checking as soon as Perry got in proximity. Once he gave Perry time, Perry faked up, saw Campbell's move, and knew he'd open on the same move and took advantage.

Perry is smart and crafty and is a guy we should have signed or claimed on waivers. He's a pest. He lives in the crease. He's a guy that the Leafs could really have used.

From last thread:

I don't know for sure, but let's say that Freddy is actually hurt. Maybe he tore his groin. Maybe he's got a strained ACL or MCL or something that is actually bad and that's why he's not on the ice. I don't think that's the case because they've said they expect him back. But let's say he is hurt.

Putting him on LTIR now fills our cap bucket and limits our options for acquisition of players. Remember LTIR takes a player's salary and fills you to the cap ceiling before then giving you the remainder as LTIR available cash (so if the Leafs were at an equivalent $79.5m right now, $2m of Andersen's $5m would first be deducted to get them to $81.5m before the remaining $3m was available for LTIR use).

There's no benefit in announcing anything about Andersen. It places them at a disadvantage in trades because teams _know_ you need a goalie, not just an insurance policy. As I said, it also affects them negatively in terms of cap if they LTIR him now. Some have argued that other teams should know he's out and will take advantage anyway. They might. But there's still no need to tip your hand.

The smart move is to full the remaining cap space with your acquisitions, bring that as close to $81.5m as you can, and then place Andersen on LTIR and use his full $5m cap room.

I recall Dubas saying that the one lesson that Lou taught him, "If you have time use it." repeatedly. I mean after watching what happened with the Marner and Matthews and Nylander contracts, perhaps he could have tweaked the way he learned that lesson, but still . . .

But aren't we already right up against the cap?

CapFriendly says we have a projected cap space of $140,335 and a current cap space of $525,125.

Wouldn't putting Freddy on LTIR get us $4.5M in new cap space?

I thought it was a pretty good goal, some seem to think we have the only guys who score good goals in the league, the rest of the league score on us because of our weak goaler.

Regardless, would love to see Campbell take us to the promise land regardless of who’s fault it is.

I know you are pretty new to hockey, so I'll let this one go, but we refer to that as a "triple deke."

Not sure how the Flying V isn't offside and interference, but I digress...

no, since they are not at the top of the cap limit, they would need to add some $$ to get there, in order to put freddy on LTIR...but they cant then accrue anymore space in the coming days (however little) and they used up any space they saved up this whole time to just put freddy on LTIR

they dont get freddy cap space to use as deadline space...

its something like that

its not confusing at all

I wouldn't pin that one on Campbell... Have to wonder how far out of position were the defensemen? That was a lot of time for Perry

Somebody else explained that if you put him LTIR right now it would eat up the cap savings that Pridham has been squirrelling away. I nodded like I understood and kept reading. (I always engage in physical mannerisms while reading)

Interference yes, offside no. They very clearly pass the puck to the head man on the V to cross the blue line, then drop it back once they are in the zone. HAVE YOU EVER EVEN SEEN THE MIGHTY DUCKS!?!?!

Just got an email from ticket master - about the tickets I bought for the Roger Waters concert. I was offered a refund (they've had my money for over a year now) or my tickets are still good for the concert scheduled now for July of 2022. Holy (frank) how much free interest are they going to collect? I know my measly $800 is a drop in the bucket but really!

But stoppable. Not 100% weak, decent fake by Perry, but Campbell got caught falling for it.

(Since I rag on Fred a lot, not fair that I don't criticize Campbell for his weak-ish goals. Fred with 15ish, Jack with 3ish)
