Oleksiak and Bogosian would be an interesting 3rd pairing.

The Leafs really need a Tucker/Gilmore/Kadri/Foligno type guy who will ensure that nobody takes a shift off. Against Calgary the Leafs appeared to be coasting for too much of the games. Did they even get a shot on goal during the double minor to Mangiapane?
I haven't seen Marner put in more than a couple of good shifts per game in ages. I fear that the Leafs have no killer instinct at all. Hardly play-off ready.

Id trade for Kempe...Leafs poking around there

I'll go further. Id trade a 1st and a B prospect for Kempe and Iafallo. Flip Kerfoot for a 2nd.

Iafallo-Matthews-Marner
Kempe-JT-Nylander
Galchenyuk-Engvall-Hyman
Mikheyev-Thornton-Spezza
Simmonds

not bad. Rotate Simmonds, Spezza and Thornton out to rest them.

Ive been learning to relax and not give a (frank) lately watching the Leafs.

Games are much more enjoyable and the Leafs seem to play a lot better when I'm not waiting for them to make a mistake.

I was just repeating election cliches from 2015 or whatever.

I'm having fun watching them, though it's more fun when the power play is a guaranteed goal

They have their best winning percentage in their 100 year history, I can dig it.

Thats right man. They are a contender I think. Sure Vegas and Colorado and Tampa are also contenders and maybe better but it doesn't mean the leafs shouldn't go for it.

If the playoffs started right now, I would bet a hundred bucks they would make the third round. They are going to be the favourite in their division for a change unlike against Boston and Washington. If they don't go for it now, there's no point in ever going for it. They can beat any team in a 7 game series now.

Serious question, what else do the Leafs have to be doing to be considered "good enough" to beat anyone in 7?

(Note: they are currently in the top 4 of all the team stats and #1 in a few too)

What does it take for the Leafs, from a Canucks fan perspective, for the Leafs to be a serious contender?

First time caller, hang up and listen....blah, blah, all the fun/jokey HB board sh1t implied. But I would like your serious opinion.

Sure they can, and will, beat four teams in a seven game series.

Too much contract no?
- Aetherial

Hey Aeth, from the last board....

Domi is $1.25 remaining, same with Kuemper....so $2.5M added.

That's covered by moving Kerfoot....but also there could be other moves this year so it could work Cap wise...Andersen could be held out for a trade???

And, we have more than enough with just the Cap savings we accumulated throughout the year....I've read up to $4.2 but it's at least $2.5 now.

Summer time could figure out the next season Cap issues....Andersen walks if a trade hasn't happened, Engvall-whomever, all the scraps. Keep Spezza and Simmonds, give Hyman a raise, etc...

Rielly isn't an issue until next, next season. So it could work and I'm not even Prindham

Personally, I think it’s very difficult to assess a team’s true character when they are only playing six teams out of thirty. The six teams they do play are not that great. Most are down right poop, like my Canucks.

Its all about goaltending in the playoffs so regular season stats don’t mean poop. What would it take for me to consider the leafs a true contender? Consistent playoff success. Over the last 10 years the Cup winners were consistently good in previous playoffs leading up to their Cup win. Very few teams go from first round fodder to Cup champs.

Most everyone predicted the leafs to cake walk to the final four this season. After that all bets are off.

All of that is fair Bloatsie. No arguments.

But, I do think the Leafs are always a bit under rated....even by their own fans, me included....they're are getting really close. Close. (a little luck or a goalie that steals a few...???)

Ps....thanks for the legit answer.

Most here know that I like to troll the leaf board. But in all honesty, and I’ve stated this on the Canucks thread many times this season, this is absolutely a fantastic opportunity for the leafs to go for it. It will never be as “easy” as it is this season.

If leaf management don’t take advantage of this opportunity then something is very wrong with “the plan”.

I really think priority is to shore up goal in case of injury. We dont want to be Colorado from the bubble.

Something like that....but to be far to him, I thought I take a shot at a real question and see how he responded. I felt like he'd give me a real answer and genuinely was curious.

Now we can both go back to our territorial hatred.
