Theo Fox: Game 37: Hawks 2, Canes 1
A recap of the Blackhawks one-goal victory over the Hurricanes to stay within a tiebreaker of the 4th seed.

Plus, a look at power forwards in the system after signing NCAA winger Mike Hardman to an ELC.

Thanks for daily read Theo great stuff!!!
Lanks kept his team in the game especially early when the Canes were dominating.
Happy for the win but the play of this team has to be better. I've noticed a disturbing trend of late that this team is not ready to play at the start of the game. No Bueno..

Thanks Theo - good stuff as always.

Lanks saved the game for the team last night. Is it the coaching, or the players, to blame for the bad starts - especially in the early 6:00/6:30 start games? Q's teams were also known to miss the wake-up calls for the early games.

I would rather see Soderberg between Kubalik and Hagel. Kamp between Carp and Kurashev.

I think deHaan played some right D. That allowed Kalynuk to play the left side. That’s good.

Keith Boqvist
Zadorov Murphy
Kalynuk deHaan
If Mitchell slots in he can play rd and deHaan ld.

I think the Hawks need to follow the Vegas or Carolina models of good or really good players up and down the lineup without elite players. That is instead of the Tampa or Florida models that have high priced elite players. Barkov/Ekblad/Bob. Hedman/Kucherov/Vasilevsky.

Well, neither one of those teams has won yet. And which model has done better in the salary cap era?

Funny those kind of teams seem to come up just short a lot....it’s almost as if they’re missing something.

I'm sure when they draft players they say i hope this kid doesn't become a super star, just a good solid hockey player.

Vegas not top heavy?

Stone $9 mil.
Pieterangelo $8.8 mil.
Fleury and Pacioretty $ 7 mil. each.
$12 million tied up in goaltending.
Have a projected $1 mil. of LTIR to use to improve their roster this year.

powers mentioned we have have the worst Expected goal % 5 on 5 in the league. I hope stan is not drnking the cool aid we are not close to a team that can do anything other then just miss the playoffs and draft 10th or so. I know the market for rentals is not great but what is the point of having janmark, Soderberg play our last 12 games irrelevent of the return. would rather see entishistle and the new guy.

Nope. Not at all. Nothing changes regardless of their standings this year. Next year, possibly, but not this year.

Doesn't that put Stan at the 50 contract limit right now?

I think so. Capfriendly lists 49/50 but this guy isn't on it yet.

Well either Stan is going to be purging contracts, or the Hawks cannot take on a bad contract in a trade then.

Maybe a lower end prospect will be used as a trade to take on a bad contract to give the illusion of a hockey trade?

Why not? Just include a contract going the other way?

I know. He's going to have to make room for Maxim Shalunov somehow.

Could be, timing seems odd that he adds 2 contracts and is at the limit less than 2 weeks before the TDL. Of course he might already have made moves that just aren't announced yet. you know how sly those accountants are.

I believe they can just waive a kid that ain't cutting it if they need the space. I suspect they know where they are with contracts and have a plan.
