If *I* were blowing it up/retooling, I'd be moving on from many of the big guns. Guys in their late 20s or 30s aren't going to be much good if the team is in the downswing for a couple seasons.

Players like Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Valimaki, Andersson, etc. would be the ones I'd be keeping around

Maybe let the Flames fans know where the team will end up based off percentages??

What hope there was for this franchise has deteriorated.

At best we can squeak in at 4th and hope for a miracle. This is what happens when you try and speed up a rebuild. We deserve more than hoping for miracles.

For as much crap as people give Cheveldayoff in Winnepeg, they are a good team that is built for playoffs.

People should relax, we don't have to do anything, including "blowing it up" - the boys are already blowing it up themselves, at this rate we're already in the running for the 1st overall pick.
In the end, I bet Gaudreau gets moved & they bring in Hall, try to sell Lucic as an improving asset (and get rid of his turnovers), sell Bennett(why does he look spaced out all the time?), and in comes Zary, Pelletier & our potentially high pick in 2021
Other creeping problems are the fact Mangiapane's probably getting $4m/yr extension, Dube upped to $2m/yr..
Gaudreau + Monahan might stay if we overpay and pitch having them play together

Such a comedian. Yes, the team is blowing itself up from within. Perhaps the players are ready to be scattered to the winds, though they're not doing much to boost their stock (or the returns to the Flames, for that matter).

Buffalo-West...the new name for the Calgary Flames.

The Glass isn't half full and it's not half empty. The glass is broken and the owners need to find a way to clean up this mess.

Treliving caused this mess and if they give him a do over to try again, this team will be Buffalo west. Get a new GM now!

Leafs may be interested in Rittch & get them in a bidding war with Washington or Colorado.
Gio should be on Ek's rumour site, Florida comes to mind. Heck eat a couple mill to ensure we get a decent return. Gio has a 19 team trade list, thats a lot of teams.
Bennett may be playing pretty meh as of late but GMs know this kid seems to know how to turn that switch on come playoff time. The fact he is an RFA is even better as the team acquiring him have an option to walk & treat like a bare boned rental or keep him if they feel they can get the potential out of this kid. He may get a tad bit more on the return than many may think. Flames can eat half his salary to get a better return as well.
Ryan should net us a decent pick, 3rd rounder or even 2nd if Tre can get a bidding war going.

Nesterov, Leivo, Nordstrom, Stone(probably why they played him these last few games to get him on other GM's radar as a depth option) Simon all should be available to the highest mid to late round bidders.

Big names will get moved in the off season. The Winds of Change are coming.

Yep said this long time back. Got ripped for it, as it seems any view that not the know it all's is wrong. BT said when hired he would build team through the draft BS. Can't build through draft when ya trade ur pic's for old slow expired players. So here's to all those that want to trade pic's for slug's ya got what you deserve, a poop team.
Looks Fukin good on ya.

The problem is, the guys everyone wants to hold on to, will bring the greatest return.

Who's going to take aging Backlund's $5m/yr salary? In a salary cap era.. he'll be the new Lucic, give him 1 or 2 more seasons before he drops off.

Same theory applies to everyone we want to dump.

I think it's obvious Treliving's plan was to use Pelletier and Zary as cap fillers to accommodate re-signing Gaudreau, Monahan, & Tkachuk - with Zary given the chance to become what Bennett never did. And the fact Treliving said last summer that you don't get rid of good players - don't count on a rebuild guys.

The Flames community goes off on its own tangent every now and then - but don't pay attention to obvious signs. once Kylington was the next Nik Lidstrom, then you got a signal when they traded for Gustafson, & this year Kylington has seen limited ice time.

Count on a re-tool like money in the bank.

I bet Pelletier+Zary make the team, we draft high, and one or two core players get moved + they pitch to Hall (nobody wants to come to Calgary, so they'll say yes if he still wants to)

I don't think the owners want a rebuild bro. Every trade gets run past the owners, source: the grandson of a late Flames owner, smoke pit @ Coyotes. Tre's going to put his head down and run this team into the ground

Bennett & Gaudreau are niche players, and there's probably only a handful of GMs with fetishes for them

Just close your eyes and accept the notion that this is an "off year" for Gaudreau/Monahan - and that we'll go from last to first place like Colorado did, baby..

The answer is obvious. promote Sutter to POHO and let him rebuild the team. In 4 or 5 years you should have a team full of coke machines that is ready to out there and compete for the 2014 Cup.

Maybe they should fire Treliving and make Sutter GM? That's the best way to set yourself up for another 10 years of failure. Sutter's first move will be to acquire Kyle Clifford and then coax Iginla out of retirement. Maybe Craig Conroy for the taxi squad? What a loser franchise.

Definitely the position that Flames management should be taking. it's just an off year, the GM is a genius and right coach for this team is in place. Now close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and say "notlisteningNotlisteningNotlistening" until the middle of May.

But they blew the kitty replacing the coach. In a no revenue year they can't afford to replace the GM too.
