Be careful and wise on the Kaprizov contract his NHL sample size Is far to small to throw money and term at him, All you have to do Is look at the Suter and Parise deals, No more longterm BS. I'd give Kaprizov 14 million and 4 years TOPS.

All you have to do is watch Kaprizov to know that you should sign him to max term.

I watch him every game and what a joy to watch but again, A good GM doesn't want to get saddled with term and money and have a couple of dead horses on the payroll, Who's to say that Kap might want to go back home someday for various reasons.

Now you are just trolling.

By that logic no GM should ever give any player max term and money because they may just decide to no longer play for various reasons. If he were to leave and go back to Russia pretty sure the Wild wouldn't be hamstrung on the contract that he left as it would probably be no different than someone on LTIR outside they wouldn't have to pay him.

At this point I think it is relative, if you can get him to agree to under $4 mil a year sign him longer term, but if he is pushing for more then go shorter.

Wish the Wild could sign Kap for $4 mil a year. That won't cut it. I think it was Russo that has an excellent article on the Athletic that shows what it is going to take to sign Kaprizov long term. Even short term is way above $4 mil.

I'm hoping for $8.5 mil a year for 8 years. I can see that at 7 years as well. Normally, prime years for hockey players is between 26-31. So the Wild have 2-3 years while Kaprizov should theoretically keep improving. What do you think max contracts are going to be in 2-3 years from now? The cap will start going up again, and in 2-3 years, $8.5 mil for Kaprizov will probably be a bargain. And that shouldn't handcuff the Wild for other big deals either.

Gotta think, has the Wild ever had a player as electric as Kaprizov? And when comparison's start being done about him being like Ovechkin? Not that I think he is on par with Ovie, or even close...but maybe more like Panarin or Tarasenko? And this will also be like the Parise/Suter signings...star power to get butts in the seats (eventually).

Side note...is anyone else thinking what a joke it is that sports (all of them) are blocking out home games on TV to "protect the market"? NOBODY CAN GO!!!
