Too late into the season for Norris considerations?

1)Ceci has been the most consistent and the most pleasant surprise.
2)Matheson has played well but has had few bad games.
3)Marino has been asked to elevate his game, he has been steady. A bit underwhelming.
4)Letang has been up and down. He has started to play much better lately.
5)Joseph started off fantastic and has cooled off.
6)Pettersson is the most inconsistent.

Making Letang expendable 1 game at a time! haha in all seriousness I actually thought he showed some good signs (for a 6th or 7th dman if needed) for his 10 minutes of ice time. Anything is better then playing Weber and Czuczman again.

.....so why are we pooping all over Sidney Crosby? GMRW, you’re never happy unless you’re miserable. Get a hobby. Penguins 2 best wingers? Sid and Geno have shared Horn, Jake and Rust. That’s a wash. But Sid famously turned average wingers into gold. He made a career of having Dupuis, Kunitz, Brian Gibbons, Colby Armstrong, Sheary, Rodrigues, and the like while Malkin has had Neal, Sykora, Iginla, Kessel....they’re different styles of player and play with different styles of winger. This isn’t about Sid “hogging” all the good talent. This is also coaching. Go cry somewhere else.

What was nice is Friedman is a RHD playing on the left side. Helps if he can competently play either side. Maybe the Pens could go back to 7 defensemen.

Since Willy re blogged over me. Your ranking was the average order out of the 19 responses that were sent in. From what I sent in I had POJ over Letang as its based purely off 1 game grades totalled up. POJ obviously had 5 or so less games.
21 games is still a smaller sample but it is a 1/4 of a full season now but kind of crazy to see almost everybody has Ceci as the top pens dman and Matheson at 2 or 3.

It's just one of his narratives about how the Pens are always unfair to Malkin. They never give him the good wings like Neal and Kessel.

Is RW going to acknowledge that his complaints of the Pens acquiring Matthesson and (I can't believe I'm saying this) Cody Ceci were very wrong? Those guys have been solid contributors to the team.

Besides Jake Guentzel and Hossas short visit I would say Malkin always got the offensive upscale wingers. No one expected Duper and Kunitz to turn out as bonafide 1st liners.

Kunitz was a first liner before he got here.

I thought it was Getzlaf, Perry and Teemu? Could be wrong though

Sykora, Neal and Kessel were Geno's best. And Sids best were/are Kunitz, Dupuis and Guentz. Guerin was with Sid for a couple seasons. Malone was with Geno for a couple. Rust and Horny has been with both and the rest of the wingers were just basically Sheary/Fedotenko types. It's been pretty even.

This is true. However I don’t think anyone thought he would be Crosby’s mainstay winger when acquired. I’m all for giving Malkin the better wingers. Crosby is flat out abetter hickey player than Malkin and quite frankly is better at playing with middle six wingers.

@Grinder: Hornqvist and Perron were brought in to be first liners and were given to Sid.

Listen, this is all pedantic. This is a function of team construction and depth. When we have a lot of good wingers and a competently built blue line, everyone gets good linemates. When we don’t, the best resources get allocated to the first line. That’s how it is with every single team.

Production wise he put up 41, 59, 60 points in Anaheim. Those are all top line winger numbers.

07-08: Getzlaf and Perry were his most common forward linemates.
