Yes an argument could be made Matthews is top 2 Draisaitl is 3. Uses his big body well. Marner in a conversation with 10-15 others (maybe more) when ranking the top 5. - jribout
Draisaitl has the advantage of not facing the number 1D, McDavid does. Matthews has to deal with it every shift.

Some equate physicality with defensive ability. I prefer good positioning and being able to get the puck out of trouble areas with a good stick, heads up play or great first pass out of the zone.

I think part of the problem with JT this year is that he's dropped a bunch a weight, you can see it in his face, and that's maybe improved his speed a bit, but he's such a horse down low, he needs that Jagr rump action to keep the cycle going.
