I've seen the Ovie talk. I see virtually no way he plays for anyone other than the Caps. He has a close relationship with the ownership including Rich Fairbank. He'll be with the Caps pretty much to the end.
I think we're likely stuck without making any big moves for players until Ladd comes off the books. Interesting to note that we only have one pending UFA at the end ofthis year (Cizikas) whom I kind of doubt we will resign. If only we could find a way to unload Komarov and Ladd....

I think they'll resign him. |

Komarov contract at the time = not a big deal we have plenty of room.
Johnston contract at the time= not a big deal
Martin contract = not a big deal we’ll never be up against the cap.
Hickey contract= not a big deal
This is exactly what it’s a big deal.
Also, have two seconds and a first in next years draft. - Cptmjl
They don’t have their 2nd rd pick. Devils have it. |

Johnston's contract isn't a big deal. If they send him down to the AHL he won't count against the cap. |

This is what I don’t understand. If they didn’t sign Johnson or Martin they would be replaced with other guys making the same money and you would still be in the same boat cap wise. It’s not like they would have two less guys on the roster if they didn’t sign them😂😂 Leo, Ladd, Clutterbuck and Bailey are the problem. Not two guys making slightly more then the league minimum |

Leo, Hickey Ladd that's over 10 million in dead money and that's what's preventing Lou from doing anything. They would have really been facked if JB didn't get hurt. I just don't see much change in this roster until the second season at Belmont when they have a ton of money coming off the books. It's crazy that they have 8 million buried in the minors. That's your first line winger cash |

This team was good enough to come wthin two games of the Stanley Cup finals last year. I'd also say that if we managed to have gotten past TB, we would have beaten Dallas. So "IF" this team is playing at the top of their game, with Beau scoring, Nelson scoring and Wahlstrom coming into his own, I think we can be just as good if not better than last year.
So while a top line player would be a desirable addition to put us over the top, I think we 'could' be good enough as we are. I imagine that's exactly what Lou and Barry are thinking. So I definitely don't expect any splashy moves. Hell, I'm not sure we'll see ANY moves at all.

I could see them maybe adding some depth on D at the deadline if that. Not much money to play with so that might be tough as well. Love how Wahlstrom looks so far. Glad the Rangers passed on him BTW anybody else notice Holstrom & Bouldic are having pretty solid starts to their pro careers in Bridegport? |

Yup 100%I'm not sure if they can sweeten a deal with Seattle to take one of those deals or if they just wait it out |

If they play like last night then more often then not they are gonna win and that looked like a playoff team |

I think we could use a forward or two via trade because we really dont have anyone in Bridgeport to help us out right now. Forsberg would be a very nice addition. A guy like rust on Pittsburgh would be a nice fit. The cap is a major issue right now. Barzal will get 10 or more on his next contract. Hopefully by then the cap goes up. Wahlstrom is going to be due a contract and that is going to cost us. Pelech is in a contract year now and he is our best defenseman now. Unless we can find a way to trade Hickey and Komarov we really can't do much at all. |

Ladd is the worst signing in Islanders History. The reason I say this is that right now is this summer we have Pelech Beauvillier and Sorokin due contracts . If Beauvillier goes on a tear leading up to the deadline then his value goes up. |

My apologies. When I said the Islanders don’t have the picks, I was referring to quality. Their 1st is likely (hopefully) going to be a late one, and this isn’t a terribly strong draft. Thus I think the Islanders would easily be out bid picks wise. - Wildschwein
The only teams making a play for Foresberg at the trade deadline will have late picks. Teams making trades at the deadline generally all do. |

One thing that would help the Isles Is a solid 3rd line, They have been auditioning guys all season. Lines 1, 2, and 4 are pretty solid. I love watching Clutterbuck, Martin, And Cizikas on the fourth line, They are fun. |

Martin didn’t have to be resigned we could’ve thrown someone else in there aka Johnston who is still signed this year and next but that’s of course debatable but then that makes Johnston’s contract redundant. Komarov is obviously overpaid for what he brings along with Hickey who isn’t playing in the nhl and at the time was a ridiculous contract and term. Also, I didn’t mention two guys I mentioned four that were unnecessary salaries arguably save for Martin even though we already have a similar player in Johnston signed. Yes, agreed Ladd is of course a terrible contract but Im referring to players that were signed to contracts that were defended on here hence why I didn’t even bring that clown up.
Summed up it was a waste of cap space which is always at a premium even before covid. Also, I don’t love Bailey but at least he’s a contributing player while he’s getting paid. |

Well that depends. I could see a bubble team (Devils come to mind) giving it a go, especially as Forsberg will still be under contract next season. |

Possible but ultimately it’ll be a combination of the best offer and who has the cap space. There’s not much of it to go around. |

True. UFA contracts next year will hopefully reflect that. |
