It just blows me away that a 24 year old would have facets of his game he needs to improve. If only Willie wasn't 41 years old and there was room for growth. 🤦🏻♂️ - joel878
Or horrors, he never becomes a Hart Trophy player, just a very good one or just a very good offensive player |

Not surprised to see posters faulting nylander for thr Calgary goal - burn
Here’s my take. In a perfect world, that player may not have been Willy’s responsibility, but once Engvall (I think) committed himself, Willy needed to adapt and cover for him - it happens multiple times each and every game. That being said, that probably would have free’d someone else up. I may have to go back and look at it closer. |

Jerkin too much? Not enough? I mentioned it earlier. He wasn’t shooting last game, so I thought he may have an injury. |

Acute Anxiety about facing Tkachuk. The guy recently died, give him a break. |

I don't fully disagree, but Mickey was closest and he bailed to the point because he thought Engvall had him. Willie should have come back with a bit more conviction though.

I agree. Gaudreau wins the board battle with Engvall. Dermott gets caught in the middle and puck gets to Tkachuk. Holl makes quick decision to leave Mangiopane and go to Tkachuk. Willie needs to slide down onto Mangiopane but it all happened quick.
Off side winger is generally supposed to leak down to help on the net front.
Biggest issue I think was actually Dermott getting stuck in between and not grabbing anybody or the puck.

Willy more than made up for it. That was a win I didn’t think was coming, especially with Ritt0ch.
Willy seemed happy. Maybe he tries to be the guy more often. |

Jesus.
The A.G. of South Dakota was involved in a an accident where he claimed he thought he hit a deer that killed a pedestrian. Interrogation footage reveals glasses inside the car. Clearly the guy thought he hit a near sighted deer. |

Dermott still has decent position when Engvall leaves his man and Mickey who is fairly close to Mangiapani leaks to the point. Holl also loses Tkacuk. Nylander could have made a bit more effort earlier.
All that happens in 3 seconds.

Believe I said Willie could have made more effort earlier. Also saying lots of errors led to that goal. All within 3 seconds

No Engvall? I thought he had another good game. Leaves a bit to desire at times but that’s the French in him. Keefe can beat that out of him hopefully. 🤓 |

If another team did what the Leafs did tonight most of us would be saying they just did what first place teams do to win.
I was really happy, & shocked (but really happy) to see the Leafs come back and win in OT. It was very “unleafy” and makes me think maybe, just maybe it’s a sign that this team is different than the typical Leafs team we all have grown to love and hate at the same time and expect the best / worst from.
They stepped up and got the W with their 3rd sting goalie in and some impact players out of the line up.
Are they mentally tougher than previous Leaf teams? Time will tell but rather than harp on if Willy was / wasn’t to blame on goal #1 I’m just going to be happy that he scored 2, Hutch made the stops they needed and they got 2 more points.
Awesome response from last game and the fact they didn’t give up when Big Save Dave kept turning them away time and time again and they were outshooting the Flames badly was just so nice.
Go Leafs Go.
I Be-Leaf.

Willy was skating well all night, had plenty of opportunities. Curious how much his WAR went up today? |
