No clue how he would fit in with the Flyers. Sure he would make a nice addition, but if he can't/won't play the right side then why trade for him to play bottom pair?

No clue what the return value would be. The Flyers would have to be sending at least 4m back to even fit him so it would have to be more than just low cost assets going.

but my only concern is the expansion draft and who we would have to leave unprotected. I personally wouldn't make any big splashes until after.

Not everyone remembers or was watching what happened about 9 years ago... but we both do!

Would the Flyers offer Proorov, Myers, or Sanheim for 1.5 years of Ekholm? If the answer is no...then I guess Ekholm doesn't get protected. So now you get him for half a year. Would Philly offer enough for Nashville to bite? No they wouldn't. So Ekholm either gets traded somewhere that doesn't have expansion draft issues. Or the most likely scenario...Poile waits until after the expansion draft and then trades Ekholm where he can field way more offers.

The Penguins don't have the draft picks or prospects to entice the Predators, who have no cap space once Ekholm comes back from IR. I also can't imagine Nashville wants another aging forward to join their collection of aging forwards, so I can't see the Penguins as a viable trade partner. The Flyers, on the other hand, have the picks and prospects Nashville might want to start rebuilding on the fly.

Speaking of making total sense...how about Calgary, who seem poised to miss the playoffs, and in need of a rebuild, but according to Ek will be giving up premium assets to rent Taylor Hall, when they can just sign him as a UFA this summer. After they were supposed to sign him last summer. Yeah ok...

Myers can play the right side with Provorov. Sanhiem can also play the right side and form a pair with Ekholm.
