I'm going to be completely honest here.

My excitement level will not raise or lower one iota if they hire BBQ, Leaman or Tommy from Orchard Park.

Jon Cooper was an attorney who coached a high school hockey team.

So we should see what Celino and Barnes are up to?

I’ll keep the train rolling....

1- I can agree on the small trade he has orchestrated. But I am reluctant due to the lack of experience in that front office. Coupled with the contracts to Gus and Tage, it’s enough to make one uneasy when the complexities of the bigger trades can get crazy.

2- I see and concede the point. It is probably just Bruce trying to get his name out there. Which is fine, I guess. Hell, maybe there is a path to Ralph heading upstairs and Bruce coming in and that’s where the comment comes from. Who knows with this organization. But I guess I’d take Ralph, Adams, BBQ Bruce. Over Kim, Adams, Ralph... again, Ralph is or was, likable, he has the pegs hoodwinked and they don’t want to pay him not to coach. So pay him to president, get him away from on ice. Let him re-synergize the fan base while distancing Kim... I’d take that through his contract and revisit next off season.

3- with Ullmark showing two years of injury. It should be a really strong 1b that’s brought in. Someone that can handle the workload for a month if Ullmark goes down. I want to see Ullmark here. I like him. You just need stronger behind him.

Now the hard part, what are you willing to offer him? If it's not a starter deal, and more of another show-me deal, why shouldn't he test UFA?

Ouch

Weird how he hasn't exploded in Columbus now that he's not playing in a loaded top 6 and for a coach who wants him to become a two way player

So Jeff Skinner?

Torts is a bad coach and outdated.

This is a weird flex considering that is the exact thing going on here.

That's my point.

That and Laine also isn't that good

Laine - Expected goal for % - 43.3% Worst among Columbus forwards

Skinner - 56.6% expected goal for %- Second on Sabres to Eichel

Skinner actually drives play

I’m awful with contracts. Hell I’m awful with trades and well anything more than shouting bjustead, Gillis, gallant, bbq Bruce or Gronbeard...

But like anything, what are the comparables to him in the league? Can you structure it with a “bonus” on games played? Or injury? If you could tie a bonus portion to availability maybe you try that route.

If that’s not possible... the cap friendly “compare contract” button shows both cbus
Goalies as comparable. Not sure exactly what that’s looking at but...

Ullmark- $2.6
Elvis - $4
Joonas- $2.8

And what’s the average starting goalie salary $3 mill? Could you lock Ullmark up for $3.5?

Oddly, I wouldn’t mind either of the cbus goalies coming our way.

In the back of my head, I was going for 2 x $3.5, and basing that on hopefully getting 45sh games out of him. He has decent metrics that are average-sh for starters. The injury history will hold him back from making a ton.

Then, they need a 1A to compliment a 1B in Ullmark, or vise versa

Lot of questions, there. First up, no conditional bonuses are allowed. It's all guaranteed money.

Lehner, Varlamov, Andersen, Rinne each make 5m. They are #14-17 as highest paid goalies. Think it's fair to call that average.

Cam Talbot got 3 years for 11m (3.67m). That's pretty much bottom of the barrel for starters (no longer team controlled). I think he's a good comp. Merzlinks is a good name, but he signed his deal as an RFA. His 4m might be in the ballpark.

Flat cap + injuries = hard to guess. Maybe he feels comfortable here, maybe he's tired of losing, maybe he's unhappy with how they handled his last couple deals. I'm his agent, I'm looking at 4 years @ 4.5m, so asking a bit higher.

I like that line of thinking. Do you see either C bus goalie as that 1a?

And say it’s the “expensive” one at $4 mill

Plus Ullmark at $3.5... $7.5 for the tandem doesn’t sound god awful in a flat cap 2-3 years.

Which, I wonder if Gary threw that out there as a shot across the negotiating bow....

I think there is a deal in there then.

If you use the ion (team). 2 years at $3.5. Your (player) 4 years at $4.5

Call it 3 years at $4....

With the way escrow works and the agreement they made, it will take a few years (after revenues recover) to pay back. I don't think he was playing games there.

I'd be guessing that a 1A for $4 - $4.5 for a guy to get the other 40 - 45 games.
But I'm not claiming to be up on the Goalie contracts.

The tv doesn’t impact that at all?!? Wouldn’t that deal be considered a huge raise for the league?

I know a LOT of their revenue is driven by fans in seats. And these two seasons absolutely hammer them. But that’s a pretty solid tv deal for them. With a smaller portion still on the table to be hammered out and the Canadian deal coming up in 2 years?

The Canadian deal isn't for another five seasons (through 2025-2026). I got it wrong a couple of days ago.

It helps, but it takes time to kick in and repay the current debt. Once the revenue fully recovers, I think they look at the previous 2 seasons to establish the cap. I think that already pushes you out 4 years. Most of the articles I've read don't expect a significant cap increase in the next 6 years.
