There was some stuff that Pittsburgh could look into Staal, Sabres might have to eat some celery

Washington gave G Brandon Scherff a franchise tag worth 18M. This is going to be an absolutely flooded free agency, and you're paying a guard 18M? That seems insane to me.

Sam Reinhart has been consistently good. Mittelstadt has been good, Cozens has been good. Hall and Eichel both have really good on ice impacts but can’t score to save their lives

Staal has been all around bad. He’s a really bad 2C at this point. He fell off the cliff

- sbroads24

Put him with Hall and Cozens and his line passes the eye test. That was what he was brought in to do, and mentor Cozens.
Soon, if the braintrust has any brains, they will move Cozens into the 2C spot and with further growth there, Stall will have fulfilled his 1 yr.
mission.

Eichel and Staal are choking big time, Eichel looks nothing, nothing like he should nor like he did last season.
Hall trips over blue lines, and flubs more opportunities than he connects with.
THOSE are expected to be 2 line drivers and big individual producers.
Both have failed compared to expectations as well. But wait, there's more...

Here's a guy who took a 2M paycut (opportunity to earn some back) to stay with the Bills. No ultimatum provided, he just wanted to help. Imagine having a team players love to be on that much that they'll take a pay cut willingly.
- TheSabresTaco

Right, this is fun. Imagine rooting for a team that players actually WANT to play on.

last year johansson was .5 ppg player p laying out of position as a center

staal really needs to be dropped to the third line and let cozens center the second line

I like this a lot, but I may switch Skinner and Skunk. But either way, let's try the Cozens 2C experiment out, can always change back.

No, they have some great points and pretty much say what we're all seeing.

Why the (frank)ing OWNERSHIP here refuses to see it is beyond me.

It starts with about 8:30 left in the segment.

Skating like he can't wait to get out. Shows flashes of the big, smart, talented center he once was, and imo could still be on a more consistent basis, but it seems like, "Meh, why bother?"
- Michael Pachla

Not sure I can blame him. I wonder if he has had a chance to sit down with Kevyn. A little debrief on what he’s seen since he’s been in Buffalo... How close were they in Carolina? You’d think his prospective would be very interesting.

Not giving them an excuse but this whole downslide really started after the 14 day COVID break. That break really was the straw that broke the camels back and none of us have been the same since.
It has nothing to do with culture, country club sh{t or bad leaders. What happened here was a bad case of Covid watching that the team really hasn’t recovered from.

Not sure I really agree man. The arrow was pointing down from the start of the season, and even from last season.

The players play an extremely dull brand of hockey, and their confidence is shot, and they play perimeter point shot mr softee bullpoop hockey, and their coach isn't willing to conform to the talent on the team, AND covid has affected players, and they know their season is sunk.

Bundle it all up and you have a team worthy of the slug ensigna.

I don’t necessarily disagree but a good 2C doesn’t need to be insulated with good wingers.

I’d put Cozens there now

Member when Hall, Staal and Cozens had a great game and then the next game Cozens was scratched and then Okposo was on that line for a week? Good times
