I just don’t want the current management structure anywhere near that type of rebuild.

Okposo, Skinner and Miller?
Eichel is our most talented player but a horrible, immature leader who has had 6 seasons to mature into one. The culture is massively broken here. Are we doing Eichel or ourselves any favors by forcing him into a role he clearly does not want? Are we doing ourselves or Eichel any favors by seeing if the next 2,3 years will get any better?
If we wait until he demands a trade, which he will because that’s what will happen, his value drops substantially.

Go up and read what 39 posted, and go to number 8, the Pegulas need to just step away.

Curious on everyone’s thoughts on realistic GM, Coach options? Gotta battle with Seattle on this, which will be the more appealing option

Which then leads to the conclusion of just doing whatever the hell the pegs and the Ralph have been doing until that structure changes. Don’t do anything big! No big trades. No big signings. Ride it out for a bit and see if a sale goes through or pegs come out of hiding.

If pegs comes out of hiding and sees his shadow, is that 6 more years of garbage hockey?

Currently Seattle doesnt have a team.
Buffalo has a team where a coach could coach now.

Boudreau
Gallant

Both out there.

I'd rather be Seattle and I'm not joking in the slightest.

Terry needs to stumble on a modern GM and a coach that can look at every major player on this team and say "I can utilize these talents."

I look at Toronto and how Keefe utilized the talents of his players instead of holding them to some bullpoop standard like Babcock. Find that guy.

I'm not giving up on Kevyn Adams. I don't understand why they thought they needed Cody Eatkids and not Larry.

The biggest problem is the two poopbirds trying to run the show at the very top. They made Adams a figurehead and that's really all he is. They're a pair of morons letting a motivational professor run a hockey team the way he wants to run it instead of using the players he has to the best of their abilities.

The roster needs improvement, but I refuse to believe that this collection of talent is even remotely as bad as the record and play on ice indicates.

No analytics for you!

Everything they’ve done this past year, pandemic aside, points to a company cleaning up the books, running lean on operations (operations side at least), to window dress it for a sale. Coupled with the stepping away from 716... maybe the rumors are true and he’s looking to get out while the return, despite lack of on ice success, is good... he’d turn a solid roi if he sold now.

You want your team to take a different approach, but say No to giving them the resources to do it. I know you are losing Money. But if you get it right you will be treated like God's in this area. Keep the team, turn it over to a respected Hockey man and go enjoy life on the Yacht.

Depends, Sabres are NOT appealing with current ownership. They’ve churned and burned through too many personal and I’m sure have a very interesting reputation in the nhl circles. So, unless they step back or sell, appealing goes to Seattle. Who has a gm... but needs a coach.

I want Gillis. He’s been there. Done that. Got canned. Traveled, reflected and thought about doing it differently. I like that mind set. Especially for a team that needs a DRASTIC culture shift.

Gillis at the top!

Gillis’s model looks like he would run, maybe 4 AGMs.

Coach... the obvious, Gallant or BBQ Bruce. The dark horse. Gronbeard.

Depends on who Gillis is on the same page and in sync with. I would finally like a pres-gm-coach that’s on the same page with philosophy and style of play. As well as a coach that can adapt to the talent, not force the talent to adapt to him.

The Pegulas would be wise (for once) to cut away some of their business holdings to focus on their main investments. You can't keep slashing management staff and pretend that you can focus on 15 different businesses.

However, if they were actually intelligent, they'd be signing the paychecks for the Sabres and Bills staff, and Adams would be overseeing everything. Adams or whatever GM. Because that's his job. He needs to be the most intelligent and influential hockey man in the room.

Beane goes to Terry, says I need X. Terry's job is to give him X after receiving an explanation as to why Beane needs X.

It's their teams, I don't expect them to be completely absent. But as far as player and staff personnel, they should be at arms length. Like they are with the Bills.

i agree whole heartedly. I was very excited coming into this year. Did i have lofty, unrealistic expectations? No, but genuine excitement. My fear, as I’ve stated is where is the fine line of juggling right fit, coach, GM and completely losing Eichel? I would agree Coach first, like 4 weeks ago first, then GM, then Eichel but we both know that’s not happening.
I guess the best option is Pegulas sell?

Exactly! But will this happen? At what point can/does the NHL step in? It’s making a mockery of the brand

The Pegulas selling the team to someone as enthusiastic as them, but demand excellence and will run an NHL franchise properly (NFL is a whole different stratosphere) would be the optimum scenario.

Marc Bergevin gets to fire his coach and goalie coach because they demand to be better. Whether that works or not is another story. But punching a broken computer and asking it to fix itself is what the Terry Pegula model has been since Lindy Ruff was fired.

Selling the team is a tough pill, if the Pegulas do decide they better have it in writing that this team stays in Buffalo or we all could be learning FRENCH

It won't happen until the Sabres make enough money and stumble into enough success that Terry is able to accidently hire enough intelligent people to run the machine themselves, like the Bills. And to be fair, the NFL has exponentially more money coursing through it than the NHL.

Terry and Kim recognize that the Bills are a well oiled machine with a lot of talent in the staff. They've had a solid plan that they stuck to, their coach utilized the players to the max of their abilities. Look at Tre White, all pro picked at the back of the first round. Maximized. Look at Darryl Williams. Jon Feliciano. Josh Allen. Micah Hyde. Jordan Poyer. Matt Milano. I could go on. Point is they have a system of identifying and using talents that fit their team and their culture.

I have a soft assumption that Beane and Terry came to an agreement that "This is working, you aren't to step in with true decision-making".

This is what needs to happen with the Sabres. And it starts with hiring a coach that can utilize his players. This leads to success. More money. Merchandise. Necessary additional hires. Better departments. More well regarded talent. Better team. Playoffs. Creating an atmosphere that forces Terry to stay the (frank) away.

Until that happens, you will receive a product we have been watching for 10 years.

Day 946

We are.. still here. This island of hopelessness. Despair. Animosity. Greif. Our God has long abandoned us, choosing to shine his light upon the golden arch of St. Louis. Ah, the main land, how I dream of it. I'm brought back to this agonizing reality that every time a new commander is put in charge to get us off this god forsaken place, he makes false promises and let's us down time and time again. Like the leaders that have come before him, we've called for his head and will continue doing so until we have it on a pike. We will joyously call out into the night that we're finally saved, and will have renewed optimism of escaping the Devil's Anus upon the arrival of our new commander.

Life has become difficult here. A band of trolls come to our camp nightly, often throwing their feces at us and themselves. We try to sleep, but their constant babbling about root beer and shine boxes has left us equally confused and terrified. I heard one of them rambling on about the One True God, who has left us long ago. The denizens of this island are no longer interested in the worship of this being, and it has become clear that only these extremist trolls keep him close to their cold, dead hearts.

A plague has been making it's way around the island this past year, and has made life insufferable. The good doctor has been mindlessly wandering for days, asking people to properly dispose of their straws and rather conveniently handing out his herbal hallucinogenics. I recall witnessing him have a two hour conversation with a sandcastle the other day. I was left bumfuzzled.

Elsewhere, the team responsible for getting us off of this island has been shuffled since my last entry. The Church of Larry has closed its doors and moved to Phoenix. A wonderful area this time of year. Legend has it that this Demigod is one of the most power men in the universe. Many doubt these legends. A boy named Kahun was sent to Siberia as punishment for his demand of more rations. A few more men were sent out to sea and we wish them well.

Sadly for the men who were air dropped into this sad existence, they've managed to be even less useful than the men we removed from our ranks! A man named Hall was supposed to assist our fearless leader, Captain Eichel, get us out of here. Instead, they've been bumbling about, as our commander has restricted their movements and are requiring they turn sand to gold. Mr. Reinhart and his boy, Dylan, has seemingly had the most success among the group, at least managing to put together some remnants of an escape vehicle. Some say the team needs more men to show passion. Others say they demand some donnybrook. We continue to be firebombed daily into submission. We yell out to the skies that we have no fight left, yet the bombing continues. Our commander let's us know everything is fine and to be patient. He tells taradiddles to us to keep us in line. Malarkey! We see through the lies. Bloviate fool. Half of us have lost extremities. Surely, this is not fine.

I sit here today not really wondering what we need, what we should have, and how it should be approached. My companions and I simply seek a way of escape, no matter the cost. Heaven save us.
